Has anyone tried to form Netherlands as Denmark?

There are very few Danish provinces, so it is possible to culture shift even after integrating Sweden-Norway (am I right here?).

Never liked Danish ideas, also you can switch to republic this way.

Thoughts?

There are still ten danish provinces (I think), and you start with nine of them (again, I think!). Could be one or two off there. In contrast, there are only six dutch provinces total, three in the HRE, and three under Burgundy, so culture shifting isn't that simple. Ideally you'd want to go down to three provinces, join the HRE, and get the HRE provinces, but that leaves you personally a lot weaker then the Hansa would be in that situation. Sure, you still have strong subjects, but Sweden isn't exactly loyal :)

I thought culture shifting depends on basetax, not on the number of provinces.

Edit: Whoops, I am wrong, the dominant culture is indeed dependent on the number of provinces. No Nethermark (Denerlands?) then :(

It's all possible - you can release gotland - sell them your provinces, join empire, conquer holland, move capital and switch culture... The question is why? It's way easier with Hansa.

I'm playing Hansa right now, already got english, hannover, pomeranian, prussian, danish accepted. I managed to build all the cool trade post before the dutch government event.

The question was "what to do with Denmark", not "What's the best country to form Netherlands" for me. I don't like Danish ideas, though its initial position is quite interesting.

I thought that dominant culture depends on basetax, so the switch would be easy (no selling required).

Btw, there is no dire need to join the HRE. If you no CB attack Riga (Hansa ally) you can take anything you want (usually Hamburg). If such aggression spawns coalition (it usually does, consider sending insults if it doesn't) then East Frisia is a member of it so you can attack it and take lands of other coalition members/allies without Austria interfering.

Starting as Hansa and getting danish provinces/culture accepted/cored seems smarter to me. Nothing worth having across sjaelland.

says it all.

The hansa into netherlands gives crazy stacking bonuses from hansa events combine with merchant republic combined with netherlands ideas.

You end up with a merchant republic netherlands that has fleet and trade bonuses from hansa events. Nothing beats that.
