Is there a claim on the English crown? Does Denmark start in a strong position as it was during this time?

Yes, Denmark has a claim on England from start. And it is inherited by all his gazillion children as well.

I have read Captain Gars' Sweden adventure that didn't go anywhere more than a few words.

Did you actually read both of them? Because the claim on England is mentioned in the second one. And at the end of it I had conquered large parts of the Baltic tribes, taken the English crown as well as set myself up for taking over all of Sweden (which I later did). So Denmark starts of pretty strong. It also has elective succession which I personally like as it allows me to choose my heir. The biggest pain starting as Denmark is that you have something like 13 children that all wants educations, marriages, land and titles...

It's sadly a repeated theme in many Paradox games, but happily also easy to correct in most of their games, I'm not asking for Denmark to go viking power on everyone, just that they're at the very least an even match to the other kingdoms. (Denmark didn't really reach the major power status again since Canutes death before Erik of Pommerania, the Sound Toll and the Kalmar Union came into place.) So yeah, just a bit of fairness to the equation instead of the usual Super Sweden.

I'd say Sweden starts in a more precarious situation than Denmark. And Denmark can target pagans in around the Baltic as well as just Sweden.

How about Norway? Historically, Norway wasn't the weaker "sibling" at that point, at least not until after the Black Death. They were alright to play in CK, if I remember correctly. EU3 is another story, sadly mostly historically accurately

(That's a lot of y endings...)

Norway starts out fairly powerful and also has some extra starting troops to give them a chance of invading England. Their biggest problem is usually strong vassals revolting/plotting.
