Well, since this is my rookie time GM'ing "pros", I'll segue into a 46 hour reminder. Orders are due at 6:00 p.m. (1800 hrs) CST on Wednesday, April 13. That would be midnight GMT.

Good luck!

Thanks.

Excellent. Looking forward to seeing how this one starts.

If anyone has missed out, Game 2 is looking for at least one and possibly two alternates, and Game 1 is without a GM now that Lazboy has had to withdraw. As these games were looking interesting, it'd be nice if they could be kept going. Personally, I'd like to see someone try and salvage France in Game 2, and since there's the odd expert player lingering around here... :D

Well, that's good to hear that you are not ill or anything. In the future, I will give a 48-hour and a 24-hour warning for the deadlines.

Thanks.

Ooh, three builds for Russia - most impressive. Poor old Austria guessed wrong somewhere: was he relying on a bit of Turkish help? And where's the wandering Italian going?

I don't understand the point of the French attempt to move to Ruh...unless he was expecting an English-German bounce in Hol?

Feel free to explain :D

Interesting beginning! :)

Russia getting three builds is a rare sight indeed, is the winner decided already?
I too have problems understanding the French move. Getting those three builds by 1902 is so very important.
Aside from that I'm sad to see that Austria-Hungary has been f*cked, just like so many other times. That's a really tough one to play for sure! :(

RUSSIANS SEIZE VENICE
French, Germans clash

By Willy Kronker, special to the New York Times.

December, 1901.

Six months ago I predicted war would break out in the Old World. Now, it frightens me to tell you, this may have happened.

Russian troops marched into a vacant and deserted Austrian capital last fall, seizing the city and incorporating ti into their Empire. This, combined with their uncontested conquests of Romania and Sweden easily make the Tsarist Empire into a dominant, if not THE dominant superpower of our age.

The Austrians did capture Greece, which makes us wonder if the Austrians are seeking sunnier climes. Or was it misplaced trust in the Russians? Or maybe geopolitical ignorance? This reporter will probably never know.

In other news, French forces clashed in a questionable battle in Germany’s heartland, the Ruhr. As both Germany and France conquered the lowlands, this battle left many neutrals puzzled; particularly since Munich was left undefended. We believe that this attack is part of a larger, more sinister move…except we’re not sure what.

Although one can’t help but be drawn to that Italian army in Tyrolia. Did Germany take a big gamble and out think the French? If so, a risky but applaudable manoeuvre. Did France simply guess wrong?

The English meanwhile annexed Norway and seem poised to convoy during the next campaign. Where will they go? Germany? France? (we believe this unlikely); Will the Brits challenge the Scandinavian Tsarist campaign?

The Italians claimed Tunis, an expected move. The question is what next? We believe the army in Tyrolia holds all the answers.

The Russians have come out fighting; greedily gobbling up all neutral territory in their midst and Vienna. But have they come out to quick, too fast? They clashed with the Ottomans in Bulgaria; they’ve defeated the Austrians in Vienna.
Do they have any friends? Obviously they seem to have at the very least a non-aggression pact with Germany. But can they be trusted?

So many questions: Will Austria recover from their mistake? Where do Britain’s interests lie?.What’s the secret of the Ruhr campaign? How will the Germans react? What are the Italians doing in Tyrolia? Will the Russians continue their eastern sweep? And will the Turks contest this?

Time will tell, dear readers.

I'm not even sure that I know!!!
If you really wan't to know, pick and mix from the following:-
> Jaded from drinking nothing but poor grade Red Burgundy, the General decided to pop out for a nice Riesling.
> Unsure what to do, the General resorted to his "Executive Decision Maker" (a d6 dice) to make the decision for him.
> It just seemed a good idea at the time!!

This time I have everyone's orders in, thanks. The turns will be speeding up from here on, so if that is a problem please tell me. I am going to try for 4-day intervals between Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall, and for 2-day intervals between Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.

Now for the orders:

Austria:
Build A Budapest

England:
Build F London

France:
Build F Brest
Build A Paris

Germany:
Build A Kiel
Build A Munich

As usual, if anyone needs an extension please contact me via email.

Thanks,

Leglaen

This is the 24-hour deadline reminder to get in your orders.

And please welcome an actual alternate, Petrarca. Edi will still write backup orders, but will not actually take control of an open country. That will be Petrarca's job.

Thanks!

Greeting all,
I just have a question about retreats in your game. I'v never played before where neutral provinces were considered parts of the empires, so does that mean that if, for example, the Russian army in Vienne is bumped, it is destroyed, because it cannot retreat to Bohemia which is Austrian-controlled?

Thanks alot guys,
...Conacher

The colour of the provinces on the map doesn't mean anything, all that matters is who controls the supply centres at the end of the year.

In short a unit that is forced to retreat can retreat to any neighbouring province that is unoccupied and wasn't subject of a conflict in that turn.
This includes the ability to retreat to a Supply Centre that is currently owned by another player.

Therefore when making an attack on a piece it is always worth considering where it might be able to retreat to. I would normally give an example, but as I am playing in the game, I will wait until after the turn is adjudicated to commentate on the options that are available.
