Hi!

In two games, one AI Japan and one player Japan - there was no event or option to go from Liberal-Conservative to Paternal Autocrat (and thus to be able to declare war at will).

We ran from 1936 to 1940 with a very frustrated Japan player, unable to declare war until our Austrailia player took pity on him and declared war on him to dump him into the Axis. The reason for all the pity - despite his repeated attempts to join, the Axis kept denying him, and yet, in mid-1940 they admitted Manchuko - *Japan's Puppet* to the Axis without him.

Also in a Germany game solo, Japan never went facist and stayed out of war all the way until 1944.

What triggers Japan in the 1936 scenario to go Facist? I could find no event in the japan event file.

Also, on one play as Republican Spain, I got the (historical) election just before the civil war, in a second game, there were no elections. How are election events triggered? Where are they kept?

I turned Japan to Paternal Autocrat with an election event in 1937 by voting for a Right Government.
I tried the event 3 times to see the 3 different outcomes...and it never came at the same time, but usually between June to November 1937...but it always came.
Hope that helps

Where?

Where is the election event listed? It's not in the Japan event file. What controls the date of elections?

Play experience has shown that US elections are often premature by a few days (trigger in late october) - can election events be nailed down a little more? Where can you read the text of election events - what file are they in? Are they in the .CSV? What controls the trigger?

~Gollwyn

P.S. In a solo game Japan never got the event, when I reloaded an old save, it didn't happen, either. We may have misfiring election events generally...

I just played with Japan, and I, too, stayed democratic forever. Very annoying.

There appears to be an issue with elections if you select "Keep government". Have you selected that in an election event?

Elections, the dates, are just held in the minister files. Go to DB/ministers/ and open a country file. You'll see, below the starting cabinet the elections... A Cabinet - 1937 and B Cabinet - 1937 for example.
