i need demo to get familiar with modding the clauswitz engine. i'm not expecting any difficulties but i still would like to know the triggers and effects.

I'd make a wager that the demo (if it were to exist) would be the 1870 Franco-Prussian War.
With the only two playable nations either being France or Prussia.
My reasons is that the war didn't that long and that it shows you two major powers. My other suspicion would be the American Civil War, but that takes too many years for a demo.

Demos have been commonplace for major releases since EU3.
Im definitely hoping to get one for Vicky 2 - typically they are one week before release. They're a major gift to the community IMO and a very cool thing Paradox does for us.
Unfortunately the HOI3 demo was a bit of a headache for Paradox so... I'm guessing that they may have at least considered not releasing one this time around. But Im confident that they are confident in Vicky2's more robust testing and more seasoned engine... so hopefully theyll brush off HoI3's demo as a speed bump and are preparing one for us this time too
A fair demo would be, say, get to play any Great Power for the first 10 years, without save/load? That would definitely make me happy!

I'd be satisfied with a tutorial. I'm excited for the game, but honestly, I'd rather wait a few months for a patch and vicki2wiki.
Game starts in 1836. There won't be a demo starting at any other time period, if there is a demo.
I would like to play the tutorial, before the release, because it really looks great

It would be ill-designed if they make a demo for a complex game (whose objective is to show the game), and then drop the player straight into the game with no idea of what to do.
That be a ticket to game failure, especially in an expanding company like Paradox, on its way to become the new EA.
I agree, including the Tutorial in the Demo would be a great move.

HoI3 demo did not start in 1936 but rather in 1939 when Germany declared war on Poland. Actually the demo started with Germany at war with Poland.
And in Rome, the game started with the Carthaginian war... Rather than the start.
The difference here is that you can only start Victoria 2 at the starting date. If they were to make the demo at a different starting date they'd have to recode all the pops, etc. and if they only did it for Prussia and France, the world market would be... interesting. I don't think they'll start it at any other period, regardless of previous precedents.
Germany 1939 September scenario is in the game, though. Check it under Quick Start scenarios.
And in Rome you could choose any start date.
In Victoria 2 you have only one scenario, 1836, so I don't think Paradox is going to make another scenario just for the demo.
I definitely would like a demo a week or two before the game is released. Do you know how many hours there are in a week?
Demos are essencial for testing compatibility with the PC and avoid wasting money (and time if you buy via gamersgate).

Thats why I'm hoping there's at least some sort of demo. Nothing wrong with my rig a few ££ won't sort out, but I'd like to save some of my scarce cash if I can!
