It's a mistake to inform your customers and a better strategy would be to convince them to buy things they won't like? From a cynical business point of view, yes probably. But it doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
PDOX needs your money FIRST. Then, if you can't run it, they still keep it.
I agree completely. The purpose of a demo is to snare those on the fence after release. A demo available before release would cause those, who definitely would preorder, to test the game before purchase leading many to make a decision not to purchase.
That and all these juicy pre-order bonuses through Steam and such will also force people to decide to pre-order rather than wait for demo, play demo then ultimately have to pay for all these what are now free items. Very sneaky!!!!! But as you can see, I pre-ordered already so dont worry Pdox
For a typical company, you could argue they should just try to grab your money and run.
paradox, more than any other games company that I know of, relies on fan loyalty. It is foolish for them to try dodgy business practices as it would erode one of their key commercial strength - their loyal customer base.
And they know they will make that customer base even happier by giving us the demo earlier
Or the opposite. A lot of people may be interested but afraid of the complexity, a demo will reassure them - or show them the game is not for them. If you can play most european countries for 20 years and then export your save tot he full game this can also hook people because they will want to continue on their campaign.
In any case, even if it would be a bad move from the editor POV (but did the CK2 demo lose them that many customers?), it's certainly the best for customers. Would you also advocate for not being able to try clothes before you buy them? Hell, they would make a lot more money by forcing people to buy several sizes in order to make sure at least one of them fits!
Note that I've pre-ordered anyway because I'm confident this is the strategy game I've been waiting for. I want the early demo just because I'm impatient like a child before Christmas when it comes to this game

Agree. And seems rather logic to me.
Paradox games are not COD. They scare people off. A demo is a good chance to let them try.
If you lure a customer into buying a game they won't like you get their money, right, but they won't buy DLCs and, most of all, they won't buy other similar games anymore.
That's a very good point. I forgot that PDS games had tutorials because I've never bought one on release. lol
Really? Cos PDOx have released demos for EU3 and CKII, both of which you bought. So it seems even you aren't proof of your own statement, mate.
At least they can make a demo available for those pre-ordered.

Lets be bluntly honest, Paradox games don't sell on their Graphics. Showing us pretty pictures isn't really why most of us are here. It's the depth and re-playability that appeals. Gameplay, essentially. It's in Pdox's best interest to release demos that teach the interface, but hint at a deeper game. CK2 demo did exactly this!

It was said in the stream last night that a demo is in the works, possibly up next week. Check the last segment of the stream and the questions then, it was asked about the Demo.
How about they give access to the demo for anyone who preorders the game? Then it's neither good or bad business, just good customer service (which IS good business).
Kinda defeats the point of a demo, doesn't it? A demo customarily is something for people to try and be engaged iwth enough ot be tempted into purchasing.
It is likely that access will be open to everyone. The target audience for a demo is really for people who didn't preorder, so it would be silly to make it a preorder bonus.
