There is a certain cruel irony in how that engagement, which was a shining show of competence by the Polish Cavalry, is seen as a sign of idiocy and backwardness.
OT, just want to say that idiocy was in the plan of defending everything and perhaps even invade Germany instead of waiting behind the big rivers, weakening the enemy and hoping this weakening would make the West do something (I mean really, not like historically).
Only if you can play into the 17th century. CKII demo was limited to 20 years or something. 15th century Portugal is insufferably boring.
I'd love for the demo to be Venice (20 years of venice could be interesting!) or Aragon, or Navara, or Saxony.

I´d like Milan or Genoa more, because they are smaller and I will probably play them, but Venice would be nice too. New republican concept seems good to me.

Truth is that if UK and France would keep their treaties with Poland - WW2 might have shaped in a completely different way.
In either scenario though - Poland had no budget nor resources to mount any successful defense or offense against Germans. I guess you forgot that this country was just brought back into world of living after long period of foreign occupation and various historical twists like Duchy of Warsaw or Russian Poland.

Any offensive action Poland would make against Germany would invalidate international treaties that Poland got with France and Great Britain. And than they'd have great excuse for sitting and doing nothing (what is exactly what they did anyway)

Let's not cheat ourselves- it was pure luck and coincidence that polish cavalry wasn't massacred in this case. Still- it was only way to survive for them and results... Well- it was probably first time during war when German Blitzkrieg has been stopped
Britain/France seems like a likely one. Play as either side of the hundred years war for X years. Another possibility is somewhere within the HRE - also a place where a lot of game features are used early on.
