Hi, all. Just preordered the game from Paradox, and am very excited about playing the game.

Quick question though. I've been playing the demo for a bit as the Allies, and it seems like the Germans have an endless supply of troops behind the lines coming to reinforce the front. Admittedly, I have never played HoI before, so I could be just missing something, but is there a way for me to recruit more troops, or get more troops some other way to my front. 'Cause the way it's going, the Germans will always win the war of attrition it seems.

Please help a newbie!

Hi and welcome to the forums!

In the battlescenarios you only manage the armies that are available to you at the beginning, you have no influence on the economy, diplomacy or the production. In this battlescenario, which is a bit unbalanced, the germans have more divisions than the allies, and some of them are still behind the lines.
You can't produce units in battlescenarios, however you can get some by events.
Hope you'll enjoy HoI2 :)

The germans are overpowered in this scenario, in the real battle they managed to get about a province or 2 before getting whipped.Bad scenario design or balanced for multiplayer fun?I take the latter.

AFAIK, GER starts with five divisions behind its lines, one of which is a panzer division. This shouldn't make much difference since they outnumber ALS even before they move up.

GER is much more pwoerful than in OTL in this scenario. In OTL, most of the assault force was a mishmash of understrength divisions that included Volksgrenadier of wildly varying quality and panzer divisions with very few panzers. About the only really well supplied units were the SS (20 new Konigstigers had been issued, though all were lost in the attack) and the various Fuhrer brigades which you can see north of Antwerp. The only reason it didn't turn into a huge disaster for GER is that the Allied command was despondent and lowest-common-denominator; when you have four major players and Eisenhower is trying not to step on anybody's toes, your strategies are never bold because they have to satisfy everybody. There were probably enough Allied forces to the south and north of the spearhead to pocket the attack force once the attack had been stopped, but they were essentially allowed to escape.

Hi

I think what has to be said about the topic has already been said, so I just want to welcome you. I can promise you that the money you spend on preordering(which I also have done) are given good out. I have play HoI since the release of it about 2 years ago and I can still play. Paradox have always made my favourti games, which today are HoI and EU2. Have never played a game so much as i have played those..

So you have something to look forward to.

I think he was asking about reinforcements to existing units. As I'm playing the beta I've not downloaded the demo, but I don't think I'm breaking the NDA (it's been in some of the reviews, I think) by saying that in the full game you have the option to divert some of your production to reinforcement of existing units and some to upgrading existing units (e.g. from WW1 infantry to 1936 infantry). You can also indicate which formations get priority for this (tick-box). So instead of running around as in HoI 1 reinforcing and upgrading each individual unit, you simply make a strategic decision about how much effort to put into these tasks, and a tactical decision that specific stacks need it most. This is one of the nicest moves in HoI 2 to assist play and give a strategic 'feel'.
