So.

1. Map. Its very ugly, very bad. See a real map, and see this... :S

2. Lag. My spec: Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz, GeForce 8600GT 128MB, 1 GB DDR2. Yes, i know, not the best. but enough to run GTA 4! And the HOI? Running very slow. 2-3 minutes from the windows to the main menu, and another 1-2 minute from the menu, to the map. I dont like this.

3. The battles. Its the another thing, what i hate. its indiscriminate.

So, dear Paradox, i dont think, you see one dollar from this game...

The most glaring issue i have with this demo/game currently is what seems to be a lack of support for windowed mode.... we're in 2009 for crying out loud. Not having a windowed mode option that works, makes me feel like i'm back in the stoneage.

1) Where is the option for playing the game in Windowed mode ? Shouldnt be to hard to add a checkbox in the options menu.

Another thing is actually making windowed mode work. Currently it does not seem to work, even if you edit the settings.txt to say fullscreen=no

If i set resolution to be 1600x1050, and fullscreen=no, i expect to have a window i can move around wherever i want it, including on my second monitor if i so choose too, but currently it just loads up on the primary monitor as something that looks like fullscreen. Really annoying, since i dont ever play games in full-screen any more after going to a dual-screen setup.

Reggio nell'Emilia province name (Northern Italy, can't remember the prov #id and can't look at it right now) is quite wrong. The actual town's and zone name is Reggio Emilia, without the "nell'". That might save some space too cause the name exceedes in other provinces.

Handling visual aspect of battles seems pretty terrible.
First of all, I think red/green strips used in hoi2 for all battles summary were quicker for the eye and mind to judge instaneously, while numbers take a little longer for the mind to see. But... when im zoomed out enough to actually see some part of the map, and 3d units turn into counters, I can't tell without hovering my mouse over each province where is how many divisions. Or I missed something. Anyways, quick info on where you have units with witch you can counter attack is crucial. Next, when you attack, the on map battle progress covers large portion of the arrow indicating how far into province your units are. But what annoyed me the most was that when Polish troops attacked me at a province, I couldnt tell from the counter zoomed out map from how many provinces they were attacking. This seems strange as I can see some enemy units movement arrows, but during an attack, non of the attacking unit has any arrow indicating an attack. I can only tell that there is one by the on map battle progress. To see units in which provinces are attacking me (if its more than one), I have to zoom in, to see 3D sprites, and check which sprite is moving towards my defending unit. Insanely unreadable combat. Might be that I havent noticed some things, but if so, then they should be easier to be noticed.

Game runs lag-free at very very slow settings, but at any fast speed (a day in maybe 20 seconds), it becomes a total lag fest.

My system is:

Q6600 Processor
8800 GTX
4 Gigs of ram

I can run supcom with virtually no lag, as well as basically any other modern game. Not sure why this game is so slow. Is it not using the additional cores?

----

Impressions:

Overall, the games a big improvement over HOI2, especially with the big map. However, the game really needs

1) Optimization
2) Auto-sliders
3) Perfection of AI -- Maybe I don't quite understand how to use it, but I sent an army to prepare to attack Amesterdan (the entire army group sud), and most of it went to the provinces in the region that were given a blue dot, near amesterdan, but the rest when to the southern part of the border between france and germany. Why? Is this a frontage issue (army so big it would use up all the frontage so remaining unis when somehwere else)? Why did'nt they just hand back in the rear. Overall the new organization is awsome, but its not perfect.

------

I can't help but feel that this will be the best strategy game ever, but its not right now. It feels like an unoptimized beta. Hopefully in a few months it will be a 10/10, but right now its a bit below that.

I wonder if auto manage slide bars and convoy without AI taking over production is possible, if it is how can I activate it?
Fill your production queue with the things you want to build. The AI will not cancel or re-prioritize anything that you put in the queue. Now turn production over to the AI. In effect, you are in control of the builds, and the AI is in control of the sliders. Any time you want to add or change builds, turn the production AI off, make your changes, and then turn production AI back on.

Never heard about Vichy Italy? :p

Seriously, though, I'm interested in how ITA decides to DoW FRA and join the Axis. The operational result doesn't surprise me all that much; I imagine ITA had an overwhelming local superiority on the map.

The reason to have to edit a text file to get windowed mode that that it's not supported, hence you can't really complain that it's not perfect. Having said that, I've run the game in windowed mode for most of the beta and the demo is running fine for me in windowed mode right now. It helps if you keep the resolution low though.

When I was building like 30 Panzer Divisions as Germany in order to see the unit names I noticed, that when I did this again (because the paralel build stayed at 30 which I didn't expect) the naming went further down the list. So when you build a Panzer Division and the game calls it like "1. Panzer-Division" and you then delete it and build again 1 armour division it won't be named "1st" but gives it the next name from the according file, although the name before isn't actually given.

The name IS given, it was your choice to delete the unit. The AI produced the 1.Panzer-Division and you deleted it, am I right?

Seriously... what is actually wrong here that deserve a negative comment?
