Loving the game so far, played about 20 years as Austria. However, a problem came up during the first year.

On the pregame screen, it shows Austria with rebel controlled provinces in Flanders. After the loading screen these turned into actual Flanders owned provinces at war with Austria.

No problem here - but after I attained 100% Warscore against Flanders, I couldn't annex them, and any provinces I selected in the peace agreement gave the aggressive expansion malus.

Looking at the war info, there was no war goal, or casus belli for either side. I would think that, being an independence revolt, I should be able to crush it and reabsorb Flanders. It seems like this is just a problem with how the bookmark is set up, not with the game mechanics.

Other than that I had no problems other than being slowly eaten by France, which I'm okay with, I'm not the best at EU haha. Basically the HRE was too busy fighting itself to fend off France. Really liked the HRE dynamics though, I think I'll play Bohemia as my real first game at launch.

The problem here is that for some reason those Flemish rebels are set to nationalist_rebels, when they should be either noble_rebels or anti_tax_rebels. That would stop them declaring independence at the start of the 1492 scenario, and it's also more historical; the people who rose up against Maximilian after Mary died were not trying to forge an independent state, but were simply unhappy at the Habsburgs' centralization policies over things such as local tax and customs. They'd made their voices heard after Charles the Bold had died, but his daughter Mary had promised to acquiesce to their demands.
