So I've been playing Portugal quite a bit in the demo trying to nail down a strategy and coming to familiar with the mechanics of the game. But I've noticed something; I keep losing my provinces in Africa. At first I thought there were just some rebels, but I checked the history and Morroco just "Annxed" them. But there was no war. I noticed that I had a massive drop of income right after my war with France, but I attributed that to war taxes. But then I played another game, and I expanded quite rapidly into Africa. Morocco had but a few provinces left. Spain then lost a war against France, and I lost my provinces, but only the ones that I didn't make Morocco give up their cores on.

My conclusion is that this is because the war leader can make a minor give up core provinces without permission. Is this intentional? Is this something that people agree with if it is intentional? It's been annoying me quite a bit as I've been trying to play the demo, although I can see the reasons behind it. "You joined a war to win it, don't let them lose it or there might be unforeseen consequences" Type ordeal. I just feel like a power like France wouldn't care if an ally of England gave up their provinces to a muslim power like Morocco, especially if it increases their power in the Mediterranean.

I feel like this system would need more specific programming and scripting for it to be any good, but I feel like it could be a good addition to the game.

Once again, there is a button in the war screen which unallow the AI war leader to make concessions for the player.

Everyone has seen this. Most likely your ally England invited you in a war, you accepted it, and in the peace deal England gave away your provinces. It's also possible there's a bug, as I've heard people having this with no war at all, but I don't know. For the most likely situation, you should make sure to turn off "War leader can give or take provinces" in the War screen.

It's because you failed to untick that box in the top-right of the warscreen which allows the war leader to negotiate for you. Silly thread ;p

That is correct! England is giving your Moroccan provinces to France at the end of its war with France. If you click on the shield to look at the war's progress you'll notice that there is a little box in the top right corner of the screen that says "allow war leader to negotiate for us" or something akin to that. If you uncheck it, it will prevent other countries from negotiating provinces for or from you when you are not the war leader.

Yep. The war leader can give up your provinces unless you untick a box saying that you allow them to negotiate for you. I've heard (second hand) that Paradox is already working a fix into one of the early patches to add a popup or something that will allow you to turn down peace offers negotiated on your behalf if you find the terms disagreeable.

Yes your conclusion is right. I think a dev said that the pop up for it was bugged or something in the demo but you can stop this happening by going to the war screen and unticking the little box that says something about the war leader including you in peace deals to stop this happening.

Edit: Wow, I was ninjared five times in less than a minute

When in a war where your ally is war leader, there is a button in the war overview screen that you can check on and off whether the a.i can negotiate peace deals for you, with it on, when losing they may give up some of your land, when winning they make reward you with land and such.

Edit: Ninjared. sorry.

Bingo.

You can tick a box in the war menu (I believe) that turns it off though. By default it is on so you'd have to do this for every war in which you are not the leader.

EDIT: Hah, that was a lot of answers in a short time :)

I had this happen to me when I played Portugal. My Gibraltar provices flipped over to Morrocco for no apparent reason.
