It's the most fun I have had with a demo in a while...

I had already pre ordered it. i wish Johan would do an early release for the weekend so I can do save games and stuff:)

-- the family elements--very cool
-- the new options for the HRE-amazingly cool
-- papacy rework --good.
-- new diplomacy/ causes of wars and integration with missions. neat

I still don't understand exactly how the successions work sometimes but boy what fun.

WEEKEND EARLY RELEASE! I'll take a slightly buggy version man!

My computer is too good :(

I was playing as France, heard the war drums of a DoW, and then beofre I could even react, Austria had overrun half my country.

That fastest setting is way too fast, and the next slowest is way too slow :p

Haha! Forming the HRE is deceptively simple. In the first decade, as I released the conquered state of Holstein, saving Mecklenberg from Pommerania, and protected the Umbrians from Naples, I racked up the imperial authority, quickly enacting the first four imperial decisions.

But my war exhaustion got out of control, France attacked me in Flanders, and the Protestant Reformation quickly eroded any authority I had. Suddenly, forming the Empire, which at first seemed to easy, was a very steep challenge.

It may be a coincidence, but it also seemed as if the Reformation modeled its real world incarnation, with those powers in the least favor with the Emperor and seeking to undermine his authority being more likely to take up the cause. The only two electors not voting for me, Palatinate and Bohemia, were the first two states to convert, then excommunicated Bohemia converted. Strangely, Bavaria, my staunch ally and an enemy of the Palatinate, also converted, and then both Brandenburg and Bavaria attacked Bohemia.

I wonder though how you're supposed to get the casi belli for maintaining religious unity. I ended up with nothing of the sort.

You pretty much are going to have to fight a war to enforce unity. So, thirty years war go go go.

Also: Converting to protestant should make Reformed states friendly and vice-versa. This should help balance out the now greater incentive for holy war within the empire, and it's historically accurate - calvinists and lutherans didn't generally hate each other's guts enough to fight amongst themselves instead of standing together against the Papist threat.

Quite happy so far with the improvments - meet or improve in almost all area. I was disappointed with the trade leagues - just no were near as fun/extensive/interesting as I was hoping. I also am not so keen on the fact that all the imperial decisions are linear - take one, take the next, then the next. Be more fun to have a few more options and differences between the decitions, and also to have some that move in other directions then more unification. For example, maybe some that increase you imperial authority, but allow the member states more freedom. I really, really want assasinate ruler/heir spy missions with the new inheritance system. ;) Didn't have too many inheritances in my game, so can't complain about that they way most folks have been.

The one MAJOR concern - game started great, ran smoothly and quickly, not CTDs. But it seems to have a memory leak for me - while it started out faster then IN 3.2, by about 10 years in it was about the same or a little slower, and after 25 years it was so laggy as to be almost completely unplayable.

So I'm enjoying it so far, just having a bit of trouble figuring out how this heir system entirely works.

So for example
eu31.png

Where it says

On Monarch Death:
A Pretender Rises
Maximilian succeeds to the throne
Does this mean that both will happen or that one of the two will happen?

As for the rest listed under Royal Marriages...

Does this list represent what will happen with these countries upon the death of their own monarch (under their current status with or without heirs)?
What makes a country inheritable rather then a member of your dynasty taking over the throne or forming a personal union?
Lastly, what benefits result from two countries having rulers of the same house? Does it give a bonus to relations or what?

edit:
And one tiny question directed at the wonderful folks at Paradox.

Is there any reason why the age of the current monarch cannot be listed like the heir? It be nice to know roughly how much longer your monarch has left to produce heirs and fight in wars.

I wonder though how you're supposed to get the casi belli for maintaining religious unity. I ended up with nothing of the sort.

First you need to click "demand/enforce (or something) religous unity as a diplomatic action. If refused, you get the casus belli for enforcing religous unity. Strangely, I still couldn't enforce it with OPM's.

just got to play briefly last night as castille and i really like the new system, HRE and Curie is looking neat and i love getting to play with the new features.
It may be because im a bit rusty as its been a long time since i played EU3 but i think the battles got a little too bloody. I like that battles are more important but IIRC the Battle of Lund was a really bloody battle with about 50% casualties on either side.
From the battles i have seen 50% casualties is the norm rather than something extremely special. of course i still need to try the demo a bit more but i got really surprised at the amount of death on the battlefield.

Personally, I love it. :D
Most of the time it's over in one or two battles, sometimes three. Rarely, it reaches more, but still common enough to have that every now and then (which is good).

I tested that option immediately at the start of the game, using the imperial authority cheat, and then most of them actually joined. I believe I only had 6 wars. Not sure what the dependent variables are here. Was there any score very extreme? Legitimacy? Infamy? Prestige?

What is this cheat? I'd like to test it out.

what does "a noble from house von Habsburg" imply? a dinasty change? is it because the king has a royal marriage with a habsburg and no heir?

No. It means there is no royal marriage or a legal heir, so there will be a new random ruler "from house von Habsburg". There ruler started with me with a 20 legitimacy.
