It's useless because warfare can easily provide you with all the prestige you need.

Yes, but WE will kill you now unlike the earlier versions. I lost 2 games of Austria trying to fight too many war consecutively one after another.

Incidentally, the "graduating class" event probably has a typo, at least in the demo version. The choice is between a magistrate and 2 cultural tradition - I suspect it was supposed to be twenty, as any magistrate can be instantly redeemed for at least 5 cultural tradition.

Actually in 1399 it might be better to keep them around until youve retaken the other, non-vassal cores. Their combat power is pretty good and if you annex them all right away, Burgundy and England may proove difficult to crack.
In 1399 the vassals, even the ones with two provinces, usually roll with a one unit army, if I remember correctly?
I was thinking a bit about it, maybe a truce should be enforced when you let go of a vassal. That ought to do the job, cus after 5 years god knows what allies they've managed to get a hold of.
Diplo-annexing a vassal: Slider moves 1 toward decentralization, you lose 100 standing with the rest of you vassals, you have to wait 10 years to annex another one.
DOWing them after canceling vassalization: No stab hit, no BB.
This seems like a pretty clear choise to me. The only exeption, as france, would be with Provence, if the HRE is powerful.

The slider move isn't a big deal for FRA, they get missions to annex their vassals with a +1 centralisation reward (and no, you can't wait for the mission, cancel the vassal and dow-annex to get bonus centralisation:p).

First of all thank you for the great demo - can't wait to get my hands on the full game. :)

About the strange things I've found so far:

Map icons. It seems ok at lower resolutions but at 1600x1050 you barely can see map mode icons.

Fabricate claims spy action. That's really good idea but why this action works for countries from another religion group? I can hardly imagine king of England being Sultan of Ottomans.

HRE:

There is an event on revocation of privileges which gives empire states choice either to become a vassal of emperor or to go to war against him.
But it seems to work at vassals and union partners of the emperor too, wich seems rather odd.
(Event 9075 for the emperor triggering 9076 for the states)

Decision gemeinerpfennig description missing badboy penalty for the emperor (or it is invalid modifier?).

HRE as a state seems to be rather week becouse it is not union of neither german nor italian cultures.
I've tried to add this to the cultures file, but it appears as it is posible to have only one union for each culture group at the time.

1)Hmm, I play at 1600*1200 and they seem fine.

2) Remember Alexander the Great! :D

5) True, IMO they should be the german union. You can add this via event btw, check the italiannation file, second decision, for an example.

Anyone know if the demo fixes the colonial range date line issue? I'm playing a Brunei game right now, and my ambition to colonize California was crushed when I discovered that I can't even reach Fiji from Vanuatu.

2) Remember Alexander the Great! :D
Well, that was a little ;) bit earlier at the time when religious difference was not so important.
After all Alexander the Great was proclainmed god by egiptian priests (and it was common practice is some way), while I can't imagine bishop crowning otoman sultan and vice versa.

I've tried to add union by event too but seems like union works only if your country have culture of that group.
At least I've failed to add latin union to Austria (and to HRE created from it too) either by event or by editing cultures file.

First views, Very nice. My favourite new CB is the alliance one. I've thought this should be introduced for ages. I think on top of this there should be a new layer of alliance called coalitions. Rather than having a bilateral alliance, you can form a coalition with a nation and then invite other nations to the coalition. It would be a new diplomatic layer allowing for a coalition war and coalition policy etc.

Kind of linked to the coalition idea, I'd like the idea of having a 3rd party mediator diplomatic option. EG 2 nations are at war. You do diplomatic option "Mediate terms." Both sides then say what they want and you can use influence to draw up a treaty for both of them. This would help represent your power and control as a large nation.

Also, with the new heir system, I think there should be a new screen showing the siblings of the current ruler. You can only have as many marriages as you have princes and princesses. Sort of like the old game Knights of Honor where you married your Princes and Princess to those of other nations to form the royal marriage.

Finally, I think if you have 2 countries of different religious groups (EG Muslim and Christian) that have a tolerence of 1 or more of the other group, marriage should be possible between them. These are the only features I would really like to see added. Otherwise, fantastic job.

but compared to bribing campaign costs ...
for provence i'll just have to fund some patriots to OPM them if this is like IN in 1399 start

or i've thought of something more evil : you do some warring , get some infamy ... and you'll just have to win (or lose) a war against anyone , you offer them to release some vassals , 2 points back each ?

In my game as Austria Denmark for some reason decided to DoW Bremen w/o a casus belli. Not smart as I had 75k troops. I'm worried about an AI that would DoW a OPM w/o a Casus Belli, and a HRE member nation at that.

It's also kinda easy to improve the HRE when you get 10 authority per released nation, at least in the 1492 start when Austria has a whole bunch of minors it can release.

Historically Austria attacked France and grabbed some provinces in '92 / '93, is there any way to do that? Perhaps ally with England and get an ally CB? but I'd rather avoid the BB hit of taking northern France as happened historically. As it is France refuses to end the war, even when I blockade them as Eng and they have a high WE.

I tried to fix the quirk of pedreros et al showing up 8 tech levels too early, but my computer said "can't create file. check if path is correct" and even when I clicked "save" and said "yes" to overwrite the file, the stupid error still popped up. As long as it's OK in the real thing (TUESDAY!!!!!!) I'll be fine. But yeah, IN's been ruined for me too.

Difficulty is still called "Diffic..." in the game setup options in the HTTT demo, even though I've reported it in one of the last 3.2 beta feedback threads.

What's with the huge doomstacks? The few games I've played with various demo-countries I noticed that even the small states tend to make doomstacks... so what's up with that?
