Is it my imagination, or has the stability hit for 'same religion' been removed?

I noticed as Castile and Austria that as long as I had a CB on a fellow Catholic (conquest, colonialisim, alliance) I could declare war on them for NO stability hit.

I got a 4* advisor at 99.5% tradition, and then a 6* advisor at 85%. So it looks like it's semi-random, but at 20% I only ever get 1*, so it's weighted towards the high end.

I got 2 2star advisers in my VEN AAR game at 20% which was a nice surprise, but yeah, it's like leaders. Higher tratition normally means better guys, but there's some random in there too. Even at 100% tradition I get more 5 starts than 6s.

So... the CB for reconquest is overpowered. When I started my game as France I realized that there was no reason at all for me to keep my vassals, since I have cores on their land. Simply canceling the vassilization and declaring war is far better. The DOW doesn't give any stab hit, and with the reconquest I don't get BB for annexing them. Annexing gives a hefty prestige increase as well, of about 20 points, meaning you get up to 80 prestige. Maybe reconquest should give some BB or some stab hit or something, otherwise playing as France will mean DOW on the vassals straight off.

Yeah, they went for Massachusetts, Connecticut, Powhattan and Conoy. (Succesfully colonized Massachusetts, Powhattan and Conoy, but natives "mysteriously" rebelled in Powhattan so they lost that one.

Mysteriously means that any stray supplying of guns to said natives by Spanish citizens, along with horror tales about the Portuguese was entirely and completely unrelated to the policies of the Spanish crown.

Yes, the lack of range may be the problem. I'm starting to think Colonial Range wasn't such a good idea after all.

I think the problem is that while Cape Verde, the Azores, and Fernando Po are listed as Portugese Cores, they are still colonies, so the AI isn't tracing colonial range from them. So all Portugal has is Madiera and Lisboa to trace ship / colonial range from.

That, and the explorer ai doesn't seem to avoid tradewinds going in the wrong direction, which would otherwise drive Portugal south.

Actually in 1399 it might be better to keep them around until youve retaken the other, non-vassal cores. Their combat power is pretty good and if you annex them all right away, Burgundy and England may proove difficult to crack.

I downloaded the demo hours ago and I've only just stopped playing. I think it's bloody fantastic, it really brings a breath of fresh air to the game. I was tired of the same old playthrough, but now with all of the added gubbinz, particularly in regards to the new diplomatic options and improved casus belli system, I think I can safely say I've returned straight to the fold again.

One minor irritation though; in my playthrough I formed Great Britain with England. When I changed into GB, those countries in my sphere of influence stayed in England's SoI rather than convert to GB's. I couldn't even extend influence over them because they were still technically in England's. I suppose this is fixed in the Gold version? (Haven't read through the thread completely, so this may have already been answered)

It's useless because warfare can easily provide you with all the prestige you need.

There are situations you need prestige and don't want wars.

well, when my heir died I got an event that said "go into the arms to the church" or to a maid, and I got a second heir from going to a maid (but but I was queen isabella :rofl:)

I had my heir die, and then immediately get replaced by a new one. So it's either keeping track of multiple, or I got really lucky.

It only tracks one, but it checks heir ages when they die and there's a higher chance of getting an older heir if the heir that died was older.

Yeah you get new heirs right away, though I'm sure it wasn't tracking them before the first one died. I was sad because I was Maximilian I and Maximilian II died to be replaced by boring-named (and worse stats'd) Frederick.

What do you mean edited out? Crimea was a vassal state of OE in 1492. Are you suggesting that historical accuracy should be exchanged for game balance? Wrong game :D



Maybe to help with the Castille-Aragon thing they could make it that nations of the same region/same culture group have it easier to be in a personal union with each other or that it will cost less to have a whole nation vassalized.. Like perhaps Castille can vassalize Aragon in one single war or vice versa.. Same with Portugal and the others...etc..

Translation for non-script-readers:
Once you've got more than between 20 and 120 city-sized provinces (the more centralized you are the lower the limit) and you exceed a certain ratio of non-core provinces (15% at ADM 1, 25% at ADM 2+3, 33% at ADM 4+5, and 50% at higher administration rankings) you get an extra 50% stability cost and a 3% minimum revolt risk in all your provinces.
