i know that the city and population are scaled down...makes sense but in my opinion the rate at which passengers come to the stations is a bit too fast...
but not 1 line... that for sure is not enough. more like 10 lines only for a part of the city :D

Well, in my opinion, if you start with buses, you should have 3 lines from the station :
(depending of the station you're speaking of)
South station : east, center and west of Vienna
West station : north, center and south of Vienna

Because of the way buses stop and the chance to get a traffic congestion, the biggest line (I think I would be the one going to the center) should be in the opposite direction than the two other one.

I also think that making two ways lines is better than making loop because passenger would go the 2 ways thus reducing the quantity of passenger wanting to enter in each bus :
With the same number of buses on the line, the time for the station (considering the 2 ways) to wait for a bus would be divided by 2.

yes i noticed too that is better to create shorter lines instead of long big loops. that helps a lot. also with the metro. instead of loops, i make 2 ways lines in opposite directions

Reality: 11 bus-lines to/from the railway station, but then take a look at the bus stop. I'm sure its a bus port with min 4 lots. Lueneburg (Germany) with 72.000 citizen: Bus port with 14 lots! Winsen (35.000) bus port 4 lots, railway station stop: 4 lots. And of cause these are seperate places where buses don't have to stop on the street. (Example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3d/Ilmenau_Busbahnhof.jpg )

And the problem at the south railway station is even the same with 3 or 5 routes. You need 20 and more buses/trams. And you can't build turning cycles for buses. Every line, every bus have to take the same streets and have to wait for stoping themself or for other lines, cause you can't passing other buses. So you have the same traffic jams and a catastrophe if only one bus have a breakdown.

Fact: Even if there are less citizens in the towns, there are still 40 people at the station and for these passangers you still need 4 trams to transport them. And of course you can't build a metro-station every 100 meters.

This is completely off-topic, but I am very interested by that picture of a German bus station. The passengers have to walk across the road where the buses are driving to get to the stops! In Britain, that is normally considered dangerous, and avoided. The buses have to reverse out of bays instead: here's a small English local bus station. Isn't Google Streetview wonderful. But we don't use articulated (Gelenk) buses very much - they can't reverse out of bays (well, not easily!).

That's also the most common system in France. (the german option)
I think it's best to avoid buses from going reverse. And it's not dangerous for someone to cross the road where only few buses are going.

I must admit that the best way would be to have aerial or subterran acces to those station.

This is only one example. Here some other concepts:
http://www.infra-net.de/var/infra-n...onskonzept-eines-neuen-zob_highslide_full.jpg or http://www.stadtwerke-neumuenster.de/images/verkehr/fahrplaene/zob_uebersicht.jpg ( Standard concept )
Or for long-distance connections: Hamburg bus port: http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/122/zob-hamburg-lot.jpg

But what i mean is, that you can't say: "There are only 10000 citizen, so the capacity is only a 1/3 of the real". You have a "realistic" number of passengers waiting at the stations but only 1/3 of capacity. So you need 3x vehicles as in reality and these amount can't drive all over the small bus stops and roads. This ends in a giant traffic jam. And to say: Build a metro and bus-lines with 4 stops". Sorry but it can't be the aim of the game to build 20 metro lines and bus and tram are only accessory. (And i also had metro jams with the original capacity.)

I'd probably suggest that more people try the larger capacities mod if its causing them that much concern. I have no idea how it might break the game though but i suppose it would mean you could have lower fees.

Downloading the Demo now, hopefully its cool enough to warrant my Steam buy :)

Wow, traffic is crazy.

My big complaint would be that stations are stuck as one way, one vehicle only. They really should be 'connectable' so you have the same station going both ways on the road (as things are in reality) or a metro and bus station (again as happens).

You can put, if you wish, a station on the other side. Side is only here so you can set the line exactly the way you want.

2 vehicules can load/unload at the same station at the same time (if they are not too big)

You can't set one station made of 2 stations... It will be 2 separate stations (would be great to either have joined station or having buses overtake the one at the station 1 to go at the sation 2 (buses are from another line, one going to station 1 and the other going to station 2)

And link metro and bus station is kinda useless. People will, if they need go to the other station even if it's not linked. What for would you need to join them ? (for tram, I don't say no).

How much larger are the official cities compared to the democity?
I've only tried the demo city, but it felt really small.
It's too late to change now, but I'd rather have much larger cities. like 20 times larger than the demo city.
The major reason is that it felt like a small town, and you don't build subways in small towns.

Dont worry the other cities are extremely larger. With Berlin being the largest. Vienna which I played in the open beta in 90's and up was quite large and could have a nice metro system. I do feel that the game needs some sort of traffic signals. A lot of traffic jams I saw was because some car wanted to turn left and couldnt because of the large volume of traffic coming towards it.

The game is still crashing for me with a 'Cities in Motion.exe has stopped responding' error. There's no one thing that's causing it to crash, it just seems to be entirely random. I am running:

Core 2 Duo E8200.
4GB RAM
GeForce 8800GT with latest drivers installed
Win 7 Ultimate X64.

Any thoughts on how to fix this crashing? I have the same problem in the 1.0.5 demo and open beta.

Many thanks

Thanks for the feedback! We'll be looking into this. Could you help us by sending the log_metro.log file from your Windows user documents folder "Cities in Motion"? And if a file with the .dmp extension was generated, could you please send that as well.

Sometimes traffic get stuck (not like a traffic jam) but a tram want's to go to the left and a car to the right. The tram blocks the way for the car and vice versa. Only sollution cancel the tram line.

There is a 'smaller' solution - select the tram that's in the jam, move it to the depot, then move it back onto the route. It will start at stop 1 and go straight to stop 2 without picking up any passengers, but possibly better than making the entire line restart.

I love the fix for too high ticket price.
Seeing so much people going on a metro without paying is nice to see :)

BTW, is there any difference in the chance of someone going without ticket depending of the vehicle type ?
Because IRL, in a bus, you have to show/validate your ticket in front of the driver, so it's kinda hard to enter without. When in a tram it's easy.

I am a great lover of transport simulation games, Transport Tycoon (deluxe), Traffic Giant etc and this looks really good. Though the whole setting up lines and adding vehicles can be a bit confusing and takes some getting use to. This maybe me, but when trying to build a metro track, the view goes to an underground view. It may be an idea to introduce an outline of roads and buildings above so we can build the tracks underground and know what buildings and roads are above to lay the track in the best area..

Is there a way I can look at my previous monthly financial reports? All I have found is this month's estimated report, but I just watched my balance go down by 6 million in three years of months with estimated profits of $500 to $1000. I could never look at actual profits to see what was wrong with the estimate and what I needed to change.

Do you pay interest on your money when you are in debt? I'm not talking about bank loans, I mean interest when your spending cash is negative.

Thanks for your time, overall I am enjoying the game quite a bit.
