This is exactly the feeling I have. The idea behind bittorrent can be used for a lot of things and it only has advantages. It improves the speed for the downloaders and reduces the bandwith usage for the distributor.
Also, the viruses argument isn't a real one because PI can seed their own demo.
Hopefully on some pages where i can download it WITHOUT registering like on filefront before. Don´t like to spread my personal info (and yes, i know that i could use fakeinfo) simply for downloading a demo. That and the incredibly slow speed on such pages (never got anywhere more than 50k a sec) are the main reasons i don´t use them.
Sad this thing with torrents, but well its your demo, so your call to say where to download it, and where not.
You might also want to consider adding this part to the forum rules to state that anything related to torrents is illegal.
As far as I can see torrents are not mentioned in the forum rules currently at all.
There has been at least two good reasons for not using torrents in this thread.
1. Other search results.
someone shows Hoi3 to his friend, friend likes game and asks for demo. first answers go check at a torrent site. search results:
Hoi 3 demo, and hoi 3 full. full has more seeds. guess which he chooses. If he goes to fileplanet, he doest ge the temptation to steal the game, and might even buy it. Opportunity makes thief.
2. someone else seeds demo file with troijans with a nick close to some paradox personel or like paradoX. and paradox gets the blame for troijans.
Its easier to say just "we didnt seed any torrents."

I agree. I never read forum rules, because i think, common-sense suffices, but if it´s not in there yet, add it. Like: ´Discussion of how to get illegal copies of our (or any other) game / software is not allowed. On the broader approach applied PI´s policy this includes discussion about torrents and other P2P software. This is part of our policy of not implementing copy-protection in our games.´
There are trackers that host only legal files. Paradox could also host the .torrent file itself on their own site. Anyone downloading crap from another source would only have themselves to blame.

You said it. I didnt dare to spell out 1 just as you did. And i think the first PI-guy (Johan or King) responded didnt as well and rather put it as ´for one reason or another´, but that is probably the main reason.
At the moment due to this reply from you I feel like actually taking back my preorder and not giving you shit because this comment is so stupid that you deserve a lecture in a lot of things... Congratulations at seriously pissing me off..
May I suggest you adopt this philosopy as well: "I never use the Internet due to piracy."

Johan has also confirmed that there will be "most likely" different sources.

If PI don't want to use torrents, that's their decision and basta!

Start the download the old school way and relax! You will still be able to play it tonight.
well, wether youre a friend of torrent or not, he is right. most of the stuff that gets downloaded through torrent networks is pirated software/music/videos
now dont get me wrong, i like bittorrent for various reasons but you have to acknowledge the fact that most of its users use it to pirate stuff.
denying that is just a display of blatant ignorance.
and if johan doesnt want to support a technology that most likely hurts the company hes working for thats perfectly fine.
Has absolutely 0 to do with the technology itself which is a requirement for things which require a lot of bandwith these days. An argument in this way would also also be a totally factless statement that the majority of bandwith used for the Internet is for piracy purposes.
As a quick note I don't really care about them not using torrents but putting a label piracy on torrent technology itself is just.... I don't have a word for it........
hmm, lemme see, open up piratebay and click on top 100 ... now look through all the categories to find more then a handful of torrents thats not pirated...good luck.

as i said before, i have no problems with torrents and use them myself but dont go around claiming its not mainly used for illegal purposes
And before that it was p2p programs like kazaa, donkey... go back further and we had DC hubs and stuff, go further back and it was IRC and FTP and even further back we had bbses and stuff. It's just simply the easiest technique which gets most usage. At one point I'd say normal http transfers were the most popular piracy method. Are you going to label the www itself the culprit for piracy and not use it then?
