I've done a run of the demo as the Ottomans now, and found I had a small problem with the diplomatic missions. Specifically the one to form an alliance with the Mamlukes. Due to the Mamlukes having a rival opinion of me, they had a -130 desire to form an alliance or a royal marriage. Eventually I gave up on the mission and waited the 5 years necessary to get a new mission. When the new missions came up, I was asked to repair relations with someone who considered me an enemy and had less then -180 relations with me. Could the missions to improve relations, form alliances, or to get royal marriages please require that they actually be possible to accomplish using only the improve relations diplomatic action? Hell, sometimes the mission can't be accomplished if you take every possible action to accomplish it.
Since I'd decided from the start I wasn't going to conquer the Mamlukes in this game, this meant that two of my missions where never possible to accomplish (Annex Egypt and get alliance) and the third was unfortunately always to convert the culture of a province, something that simply wasn't worth doing with the amount of time I had to play the game, and the diplomatic power cost of 145 was an expense I simply could not afford anyway when the only reward would have been 10 diplomatic power.
