Well it migth be a bit late to sign up for this game, looks like we have all the bases covered at the moment. Let us know if you want to join our next game. :)

Sweden is not a CW nation, as far as HOI go the CW nations are Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand(Complete list of todays CW nations ). Sweden would also add little or nothing to the game, so I see no reason why anyone should play them.

Here we go again...

Terrible session but Our Dedicated Players overcame it and we made it to jan 1 1938 after some initial problems finding a CW wingman. Horse took over as Canada and showed great experience and knowledge of the game even if there were some suspicions that his overseas connection should be the cause of all the "database mismatch critical errors" and bugged events. Latency and lag yes but not this is my opinion which is supported by the fact that the last part of the session went almost without any mishaps. In summary...bugs suck!

UK missed her 3 coup attempts in balkans so Italy rampaged all over the world as usual and Franco won the civil war but USA couped them. France didn't support Republican Spain giving the US a reasonable chance to enter the war this side of the 50's.

Except for maybe 20 crahses, I kid you not, nothing seriously messed up the game balance. The UK and Japanese elections even triggered on their own for the first time in DEG history. What is the world coming to?

So far not a lot has been different regarding our limited invasion rule. I still think a discussion about raising the minimum force somewhat (to 2 or 3) and only allowing supply convoys to harbours would be worthwhile in the future. The increased exp force to USSR neighbours should be discussed furter as well.

Anyway I'm looking forward to playing 19.00 thursday and I'm sure this campaign will be a long, hard and even one but most importantly a fun one.
(I'm glad to hear that bandy gangster broke your kneecaps Jan for fundling his bandy (?) balls so we can start earlier.)

Hmmm...

The game crashed on November 30 for 6 out of 7 players, so I personally think it would be unfair to re-host with the save from 1938. This is 1+ month of limited production, no Jap advances in China, etc etc. I say use auto-save from 1 December 1937.

Also, I suggest that ALL players install the picture pack before next game. There is NO drawback to this (it does NOT slow down the game for the major nations). If you want a faster game, I suggest deleting the pictures from the leader pictures folder.

Next game: Thursday 30 October at 19:00 CET.

It turned out that I was not welcome to play France. There was some talk that this would enable Italy to attack democracies more easily but that WE increases might offset this. I'm not sure about that but playing France in an MP game is the way to find out. Anyway, having chosen France, I was not going to be bullied out of it and preferred to stay out of the game.

The Soviet player said that he had brought a book to read. There's something wrong when early actors such as France and Nationalist China are forbidden while inactive, isolationist nations like USA and USSR are not. And when playing the game appears to mean reading a book instead.

1. I have made a save from the oldautosave of 1 dec 1937. Hopefully it will work.

2. I think agreeing to play a nation 2 hours before a session, spending lots of time discussing strategies and then changing ones mind at startup and refusing to budge isn't what most people would call being bullied. Still, no worries we found a competent Canadian player at last.

3. Playing UK without a CW is rather unbearable with techsharing, multiple theatres to watch etc. Until the tech share issue is dealt with by Paradox I suggest we introduce a house rule that UK decides what nation he wants as an ally, if we dont have that rule already?. If he prefers France its fine of course but usually its preferable with a CW nation.

EDIT:
Did anyone get Horse's E-mail? I must have misspelled it.

There was no firm commitment. My involvement was provisional because others had also expressed interest in playing (e.g. Aldo) and no country had been reserved for me yet. I was expecting the matter to be finalised at game start which is when I made my choice. Given that the house rules allow France as a player country and the other major powers were covered, I fail to see why I could not have been allowed to play this country. But since there seemed to be some opposition to my choice of France, I withdrew rather than cause trouble.

Sorry guys, I won't be able to play on the 30th. We have a school party/dinner/whatever, and it just ain't worth missing. If you find a replacement Italy and his first comment will be either "WTF", "OMG" or "What n00b did this shit", don't be suprised. I found my success strangely inadequate.

Replacements!!

Fill em in..

As for France...well its a nice showing , but you get to fight a limited war during 36 and then a short showing during 39..

So basically your out after that, but personally I belive anyone can play ANYTHING exept Nat.China and this is due to game technical reasons and not any opposition to nat.chin in the game.

Btw, as previously suggested all players should install the Picture Pack, which you can download here (simply unzip into main HoI folder).

The last "database mismatch" we had when you couped Spain(not nice of you btw :) ) was caused by republican spain trying to use ministers who was not present with all the players.

See you at 1900 CET then, ill bring my hard hat and cyanide pill as usual.

I personally do not see why people are so upset at the Pic Pack. It is actually much more fun to play the lesser nations (such as the CW minors) with the Pic Pack, and it does not take much time to install (just unzip it for Christs sake....).

I agree with Madviking that its easier to install the pack than removing it and it only makes a few minors more fun to play. PErsonally I have noticed no loss of prestanda over original HOI since I installed it. Had I known it would cause database mismatches I would naturally have refrained from installing it but here we are...

What worries me is the lack of players for tonights session. I'm sure the axis is as reluctant to play w/o ITaly as I am without a CW wingman for multiple reasons. I have ICQ:ed a few people but they are all busy. What we need are two fairly experienced standins willing to team play with their respective sides. If anyone feels they fit this description they are welcome to ICQ me or show up in the COTN channel 19.00 CET.

Last but not least Madviking and I started up the 1 dec save yesterday and it initialised w/o problems so hopefully we are set to go. (Franco went soft and joined with the rebels, what is the world coming to!?)

Oh, another marvellous idea! All DEG players should edit their sigs to contain something like this:

"Member of DEG, Dedicated European Game of MP HOI. Strongly in favour of a reconstruction of HOI's interface, shortcut keys and tech share procedure."

What'ya say guys?

I currently have three installs of HOI:

* 1.05c vanilla plus a ministers file which corrects 39 scenario bug (see ADDEG thread) - I use this install for DEG/ADDEG

* 1.05c plus CORE 0.61 - I use this for solo games and two-player LAN games

* 1.05b - used for a non-forum MP game - soon to be deleted

I haven't installed the Pic Pack because, from its name, I thought it was just pictures. If it's a more substantial mod then I suppose I'd have to create another install for this.

As the DEG and ADDEG groups have some overlap it would make sense for them to be based on the same version level and mods.

I'd like to see a separate CORE MP group too but am waiting to see how the forthcoming Historical Stats Pack mod works out and whether it is included. I'm hoping that this will provide the level of historicity that I'd like - the current MP environment suffers from a tech rush in which advanced tank, air and sub techs appear too soon and dominate the game. The HSP should fix this.

Bhaaaaa, I strongly refuse to add political messages like the one Juv suggested to MY posts.

"Member of DEG, Dedicated European Game of MP HOI. Strongly in favour of a reconstruction of HOI's interface, shortcut keys and tech share procedure."

Well Im still behind your backs, even if it gets harder to hang on, its not like internet is the biggest thing in morroco - but I did find one comp in Casablanca.

Would like to suggest a new house rule about Gibraltar;

Its no way possible to have more then 2 divs in Gibraltar, the rock was smaller then I thougth. :D

Good to see that you have started to WHINE a bit more know, even if I cant see what the problem is........but I would bet my last suggar ramadan cake on Jan. Trouble seems to be that mans middle name.

Well have fun, kill them all!!

I think they could have managed a bit more than that. Its population in 1939 was 20,000 and most of these were evacuated to the UK. That's two divisions worth of people. 40 km (25 miles) of tunnels were dug and these would be able to accommodate another 2 divs in a pinch. The rubble from the excavations was used to create an airstrip and this held 600 aircraft to provide air cover for the Torch landings.

Here are some stats from the CIA factbook

Gibraltar - area 6.5 sq km, pop 27,000
Hong Kong - area 1092 sq km, pop 7.4 million
Singapore - area 692 sq km, pop 4.6 million
Malta - area 316 sq km, pop 400,000

Of course, whatever stacking limit is applied to the defenders should also apply to its attackers. Its frontier with Spain is only about 1 km long. Henrik recommended that I use 48 mountain divs to attack Gib in another game. That's as silly as the 50 UK divs garrisoning Gib that I inherited in another DEG game. It would be good to scale all this down, as you suggest.
