No idea, but I hope there is more thought put into them than the current iteration. I always play with them on, but it is a much less elegant system than the EU4 one. I love the thought of irish counts mutually defending against an expansionist england, or the iberian muslims banding togheter against an ascendant Castille. BUT literarly every country from the Bengal to ireland banding togheter when you try to take a barony in the Maghreb is just plain silly.

I almost think defensive pacts could be better if they worked the other way around. If there are people who think your expansion is a threat nearby, and they see you attacking in another direction, they may offer to join in to defend them and limit your expansion. Not quite a permanent alliance, but something to worry you. The advantage of this is that it makes the pact contingent on the nature of the war being fought- so people in India aren't going to automatically get involved in a war in the Balkans, just because the defensive pact is not location-tied

Speaking in CK2 terms, I hope that they will work like normal alliances, i.e. that the defender has to call the defensive pact members to arms, that the members are able to decline and that only members within the diplomatic range can be called.
