Are you in a war with Japan?
Maybe you could just make a peace deal with them, ceding Burma to Japan while letting Indonesian colonies vote whether they shall continue as Japans allies or become again european colonies...

OK, here is the current situation in Asia:

Japan is in three seperate wars

One with the Netherlands

One with the USA

One with the Commonwealth and me

I have played a little further ahead and can promise you there will be some action from me in Asia, even whilst I wait for the main army to arrive from Europe ;)

I like idea 6 aswell. Glad to see Germany is doing the right thing, releasing the conquered nations. I wonder how Roosevelt will turn this against you.

I am still irritated that von Manstein got CoS, he really didn't deserve it, it seems you were biased towards him, and gave him many more chances to prove his worth then was deserved. von Blomberg performed well on all fronts, and is a more balanced leader then Manstein. I, as an advisor to the Kaiser, ask the von Manstein be replaced and von Blomberg be instated as CoS.

Enough with that rant though.

Blomberg never really took charge of an entire army so I think would be more suited just below Manstein.

O yeah, I'm gonna be away for most of the day so I'll update early here

Yugoslavia and the Make up of the Reich

Yugoslavia

untitled220option6.jpg

As the expert commission voted recorded a landslide vote in favor of Advisor Enewald’s vision for Yugoslavia Oskar Meissner was forced to bite his lip as he accepted the plan which had proven much more popular than any of his own. The focus was to try and create an ‘ethnically stable’ Balkans hoping that conflict could be avoided. Although most states did manage to keep the majority of their people within their nation the most powerful of the former Yugoslav nations, Serbia, would suffer terribly. Millions of Serbs were caught on the ‘’wrong side of the border’’ causing a mass exodus from many of the new nations (draining on their economies) and leaving Serbia with huge numbers of new citizens in regions that could not support such high populations. Even Macedonia was under review meaning yet more land could be lost. As a support for the ailing Serbia Germany agreed to give the nation significant funds to help raise a large army) easing unemployment and the strain on the land, it was hoped this would help save Serbia. Meanwhile the other nations of the region (including Hungary that was awarded Novi Sad by Enewald) would continue in much better shape. Hungary would soon become one of Europe’s most powerful nations, even more so since it wielded such influence over Croatia and Bosnia, not even mentioning Germany’s favoring of the state.

The European Reich

untitled221greaterreich.jpg

Just as the new order in the Balkans was set up the boundary commission finished their work in Germany’s mighty European Empire. The decided to create two military Authorities in Bessarabia and in Karelia as the sovereignty of these two regions was under review. The rest of the Eastern Empire was divided into five ‘assemblies’ – Poland, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Transcaucasia and Russia. And finally their would be one free city – Wilhemsburg. Everything huge tracts of land around the Baltic and in the west were annexed directly into the Reich.

The areas within the Reich were allowed to vote for members of the Reichstag, vote for any party they wished (even independence movements), travel freely to anywhere in the German Empire and Economic zone and must be treated as a German no matter what their background had been (even ex-Communists etc).

The Military Authorities were run quite simply by the Reichswehr, here effectively whilst the rest of the Empire was reorganized they would be treated exactly the same as before until either kept within the Reich or given to another nation.

Within the five assemblies each region had their own parliament which would be administered by a representative from Germany. Independence was off the table, anyone who discussed this in the Parliament would be stripped of their position and a bi-election would be launched. And anti-German protests or the running of an anti-German party would be seen as against the law and was punishable by jail time. Each assembly would be allowed to administer economic reform (within reason of course), the creation of local laws (again they must be within reason), set up their own tax schemes and generally make decisions regarding the assembly only. The German administrator would decide what is meant by ‘within reason’. Each assembly would be expected to meet a quota of resources (set at about ½ of expected production) which would be sent directly to Germany Proper whilst the rest would be used by the assembly for taxation, trade etc. Any cases of outstanding poverty of destruction from war would be paid for by Germany Proper who would take responsibility for such tragedies. This was the general set up of the assemblies.

The Wilhelmsburg Free City would have its own elected Council and act outside from both the Russian and Transcaucasian assemblies. This was to try and maximize its ability to be an economic hub in the region, taxes would be much lower and tariffs would be non existent.

Finally the Kaiser was Crowned Tsar of all the Russians in St Petersburg on the day before the election campaigns within the entire Reich would begin (in both Germany Proper, the Assemblies and the Free City). Wilhelm III was now also Wilhelm I of Russia, it was decided that he would be known as Wilhelm III at all times except when he was on official business in the Russian assembly. The Kaiser would now be used in an attempt to maintain German Authority over the new Empire as (just as in Germany itself) he had the power to dissolve a Parliament completely and order the arrest of any dissident he wished.

Germany had now granted their conquered lands more freedoms than they had ever had in their existence (Going from an Autocratic Monarchy to a Communist or in Poland’s case Fascist Dictatorship). Meissner hoped this would keep the majority of his new subjects loyal.

OK final Voting tally (Polls now closed :p)

Option 6: 7

Option 3: 2

Option 4: 1

And one thing, in the update when I say Poland was a Fascist Dictatorship I wasn't meaning the post war government but in the game they turned Fascist and that sentence just had a nice ring to to it. Hope I didn't offend any Polish readers.

Anyways next up shall be an update about Stalin and the Soviet Union. What's going on around there

I can see how FDR will react to this.

"In Europe the Germans claimed to be defending democracy. Today we see that lie exposed. We see the bloody, brutal struggle that has claimed the lives of so many innocent and wicked alike to be nothing more then a struggle of old tyranny and new tyranny. It is the old tyranny of crowns, noblemen and empires that has won out in Europe today. The veils have been dropped. No noble sounding rhetoric can hide the predatory monster that has planted it's jackboot upon the throat of the long suffering peoples of Europe today. No excuse can wave away the cage that is locked around Eastern Europe or the serfdom descending on it's peoples.

The German people had in their possession a golden movement. To let freedom ring across the stained tired hills and blood soaked hollows of exhausted ruined Europe. Instead they choice the course of Empire. To claim lordship and dominion by right of arms. Instead of freedom they bring a new empire on the back of groaning subject peoples.

The German Kaiser will defend his naked conquest and imperialism. He will claim the cage he has forged with tank and rifle is a comfortable cage, but a cage lined with silk cushioned with down is a cage still. He will claim the serfdom he imposes via military strength is an easy one. An easy serfdom is still a sentence of servitude and submission to a foreign power.

The Kaiser will find the American People fully capable of seeing the facts and forming their own opinions. They are unmoved by pretty words without substance and action behind them. I call upon the citizens of this great republic to stand and declare they will not accept such darkness upon this good earth."

I think I got carried away. Sorry.

But damn am I enjoying this AAR.

True, but he still has a failure, while von Blomberg didn't. Mostly I'm just sick of everyone making a hero of von Manstien in every German AAR I see, I'm jsut getting bored of it. I think it should be more like von Blomberg CoS while von Manstein is CotA.

I like what you are doing with Russia, hopefully ctizens realise this and act accordingly. Why arn't you giving Slovenia independance though? Access to the Med?

Good update though.

OK, thanks for the comments everyone. I'm glad you seem to be enjoying things. I really have learned alot about writing AARs through this my first attempt. Recently looked at the start and it didn't look great. This story has been largely shaped by reader feedback :)

@frigidmagi: Wow  another great speech. This is great the readers are doing all the hard work for me :D as I find writing the dialogue and speeches the hardest part. If your happy to let me use it you could be seeing it in an update down the line (mabye not as immediate as last time but it will happen).

I am really pleased you are enjoying the AAR so much :D

@Maj von Mauser: Whilst I admit that most AARs do idolise Manstein too much I had to make the CoS one of the Panzer Elite and early on I set him up as the head of that group leaving me little room to manouvere. Blomberg I just think is extreemly well suited to being a CoA in this AAR having rarely commanded an entire army but always holding power of a single front (although doing it well) he never really took on the responsibility for an entire army so being a deputy suites him better.

As for Slovenia I have a few reasons for keeping most importantly it is historically associated with Austria and, well it makes the map look nicer :p

That is a great speech! Much better than mine :D Good job.

Interesting outcome of Yugoslavia. I would suggest allow Serbia to retain Macedonia or else you add the stew of angry to Serbia and keeping Balkan on powder key. You could allow Serbia to retain Macedonia on the condition of allowing local autonomy should work the best.

I think this outcome in the Balkans has already added in a very annoyed Serbia as they really got a bad deal here. Luckily the presence of the German Overlords should keep the region stable enough. Macedonia meanwhile. well we will have to see if the Bulgarians, Greeks and Albanians become friendly enough with me to get their hands on a slice.

''Actions Have Consequences'' – Lavrenti Beria August 8th 1942

JO.jpg

Since the early 1920s Stalin had been at the head of one of the World’s most brutal Dictatorships. His actions had been responsible for the deaths of millions but he had successfully built a monstrously powerful Communist State. Being no political Green he used propaganda to paint a picture of a Socialist Utopian Society, an image incredibly effective in exporting the Revolution. By 1940 almost half of Europe was in the Comintern Economic and Political Alliance, dominated by the Soviet Union. He had even managed to make a deal with the greatest threat to his homogony over the Continent, Germany, as he split the Polish State with them and was even given permission to seize control of the Baltic States in order to crack down on the resurgent Fascist movement. At this point it seemed the Man of Steel could do no wrong and many believed he was the greatest politician of all time.

But from 1940 things went rapidly downhill. It was his belligerent actions (such as the invasion of Finland) that brought Europe from the brink of harmony to a powder keg about to explode. And it was the Soviet invasion of German Poland (without a declaration of war) that sent the Continent spiralling into total war. Through 1940 and the first half of 1941 his allies in Europe were swept away by the awesome power of Germany’s Blitzkrieg. At the end of the year Germany turned its attention to the Soviet Union, struggling at first due to a lack of numbers and the good Generalship of Soviet Commanders but Stalin’s determination not to give up land (most importantly Kiev) allowed the Germans to encircle and destroy a massive portion of his army in November 1941, forever decimating the Red Army and in the minds of many ending any hope of a Soviet victory.

But over the winter of 1941-42 the Red Army made a remarkable recovery as Stalin ordered hundreds of thousands of Soviet citizens to join the Red Army and managed to bring the US, his ideological enemy to send him excessive aid allowing this new force to be armed. Sadly many of these new units were sent to Asia to fight off the Japanese invasion. In the Spring of 1942 Stalin’s army still narrowly outnumbered the Germans on the Russian Front but despite this only days into the Reichswehr’s epic offensive ‘’Fall Blau’’ his army was effectively destroyed. Within two months all of European Russia fell and the German Panzer formations pushed beyond the Urals. In early August he was forced to sign a humiliating ‘Bitter Peace’ with German before making a more respectable peace Treaty with the Japanese. But these military defeats had lost him the support of both his people and his Ministers as millions lay dead through starvation and war.

On August 8th Beria’s NKVD announced that Stalin had been removed from office and was now to be considered an enemy of the state and should be arrested at once. Beria took over Stalin’s former position.

Beria the new ruler of the Soviet Union said in a public radio announcement: ‘’Josef Stalin has bastardised Socialism beyond recognition, brought his people through the greatest of hardships and given nothing in return. Whilst his people starve he lies in his great Palace contemplating new ways to bring harm to his people. This madness must end. Josef Stalin must learn that Actions have Consequences.’’

Upon hearing the news a small group of Stalin’s supporters smuggled him across the Urals on horseback into the German Reich, Stalin was forced to beg for asylum in a nation he had been at war with for three years only days ago. When news reached Meissner that Stalin, currently under arrest, was being taken to Moscow he looked to have him immediately executed. The Kaiser meanwhile chose to overrule the Chancellor and decided to travel to Moscow himself to deal wit the problem.

The Kaiser hoped to massively improve his prestige by humiliating Germany’s greatest foe so absolutely that his personality cult (still a powerful force in many areas of Russia) would be destroyed forever.

As the Kaiser sat upon the ancient throne of the Tsars of Russia he forced Stalin to beg for his life in front of an astounded media audience. Stalin had to address him as your Highness, kiss the Kaiser’s imperial ring, kneel before him and swear an oath of allegiance to his Tsar, Kaiser of the German Reich. But the humiliation was not yet complete the former Soviet Premier would be sent to Wilhemsburg, formerly known as Stalingrad to be placed under house arrest for the rest of his life. It was no coincidence that this location was chosen. Stalin had to be guarded by 12 Reichswehr soldiers to prevent mobs from raiding Stalin’s new home and lynching him. The Kaiser would return to Germany a hero, at the perfect moment to give his support to the Imperial Party who would act as his personal voice in the Reichstag.

Beria had hoped for a much better relationship with Germany but the refusal of the German Government to surrender their prize meant that Russo-German relations would be sent into a swift downward spiral once again. With no reason to support the Soviets Roosevelt began to distance himself form Beria’s new regime leaving the battered Soviet state alone in the world. Beria’s first task was to rebuild the industrial bases just east of the Urals which had been largely destroyed in the last days of the war as German troops advanced into them. And Although unpopular with millions of Soviets Stalin had remained a staunch hero to many others, this left Beria with only one real option, the only way to rebuild the ruins would be to become like Stalin. Through the following months and years thousands of Soviets would be taken to NKVK jails never to be seen again …

haha, irl Berija was even worser than Stalin.
Just like Himmler for Hitler. :p
Stalin in a house arrest?
Houses can explode or burn down, bunkers wouldn't.
He shall die soon, I believe...

Stalin bowing down to the Kaiser reminded of Frank Lopez in Scarface. With the difference that Stalin wasn't killed like Frank Lopez. BTW, one of the coolest scenes in Scarface:

Tony: I won't kill you.
Frank: Oh thank god Tony.
Tony: Manolo, kill him!
Frank: Oh nooooo...*bang*

My precise thought! It'll be interesting to see what'll happen if/when that happens... Good work, sir! :D

You all seem to be predicting an assasination of Stalin ....

But who will be the purpitrator?

the NKVD? Meissner? Angry locals? CIA agents avenging their waste of money by wasting some more killing Stalin?

who knows ...

;)

Nah, no one really has a good reason to murder Stalin.
Since in this game gulags don't exist, Siberia is a nice place, people disappera instead of dying, no one needs food, everyone loves communism and a nice little grusian dictator?
Tell me who wouldn't want to kill Stalin?
