If you want to go to war a lot, it's cheap at twice the price.

Where the AI gets the money from I don't know. In EU1 it used to cheat by having its inflation kept in line with yours, no matter how much money it drew from monthly income. If it's still up to those tricks, it'll have gold to burn.

I was slow to see the light on this one. Maybe came from playing the Byzantine Empire too much - you get spoiled having CBs against half the planet.:D

Once I started playing some of the minor countries, the Defender of the Faith is a steal at 5,000d. Nothing worse than running out of CBs prior to 1450 or so. Being DotF ensures you never run out of them, at least until the Edict of Toleration.

So when does the edict happen anyway? That way I can choose wheter or not I'll be the defender... I never become DotF, because it's way to expensive. But alot of CB's seems attractive...

Is there any way to find out who's the current defender of a given faith (without going through the history log).
Sometimes I won't to be DotF, but someone else allready got the job.
The DotF loses his title if he loses a war (right?), so it would be nice to find the guy, kick his butt, and then grab the title...
But how to find the right butt to kick?

I don't think there are other ways than searching the history log except perhaps check which country has the benefits. ie which country that has a Cb against every country that is battling their faith

You can also check the saved game file to see. Look just above the part where the province information starts and just beneath the part where the wars are listed. You will see a line that says dutch = yes (or no) if the Netherlands have formed, then who is the Defender of the Faith - if anyone. If the religion isn't listed, the title is empty.

dutch = yes
protestant = SWE
catholic = SPA
orthodox = RUS
shiite = PER

DotF has nothing to do with any edict. At any time there isn't a DotF for your religion, whatever that may be, if you have a spare grand laying around and are so inclined, you can become DotF.

You people and your rhetorical questions.:D

SDOTF is a good investment if you can spare it and intend to prosecute it to the fullest extent. If you don't intend on going on Crusade, I would spend the cash elsewhere. You could go CRC in some cases, providing the same benefits, can't be lost, more missionaries/colonists/morale, and only -19% tax income.

Look at it this way. If your cost to regain stability is 2000 and the SDOTF cost 1000 and saves you even once the 2 stability hit for lacking CB (4000) that is a savings of 3000! Sure the 1000 is what I think of as after tax income(inflation)ie it comes directly from your treasury. but it is still a significant savings.

It also depends on your faith! Its not worth it for orthadox nations as most die off if you are playing russia leaving you as the Sole member of the faith period. So anyone at war with your faith is at war with you already! Or if you are not the onlyone left like when I play the romans, then many of the russian enemies are beyond my abitlity to attack them like the baltic nations and some of the northern muslim states. Its hugely worth it if you are a German state as either catholic or prodestant or one of the Islamic faiths.
The other religion that is not to good for it is Reform. As of 1.04 Nations wouldnt change to reform as they where catholic and they had little or no prodestant provences and so they never change to prodestant, but since you cant go from catholic to reform with out a stop in prodestant ville they countries never changed. So there are never enough nations to make the reform relegion worth defending.

I think its a flaw to make reform be avalible only from prodestantism.
