Defensive structures arent supposed to defeat enemies on their own are they?
But they will stop an enemy fleet from rolling straight over your system, giving you time to arrange a fleet to strike back and drive them off.

Thats how I understood their use at least.

And they can give boni to your fleets (e.g. shield regen) or apply mali to the attacker (e.g. mindefield). But you can build several stations next to each other, do you? I did not try it yet...

This is why I said I don't know how to balance them but they have a high up keep and little Benifit.

It barely slows enemy fleets as they usually come in blow it just and dissappear before you fleet can get there. I guess I would prefer them to be more sturdy

The other issue is that they can't be upgraded or retrofitted which is a colossal pain in the arse.

If they are there to slow the enemy down then it you would want them built across your empire but the upkeep gets too high and they can't be upgrades. Plus your sectors don't daily any ever on millatary focus so you have to micro manage all that which just undermines the whole point of having sectors.

If you have them just at your key world's then back to the first issue of they are too weak and they die before you can get back.
