And unless an island is defined as a revolter in revolt.txt islands will NEVER defect to anyone, just stay rebel-controlled.Nikolai II said:The only thing I know is that revolt.txt plays a part. This is why Malta keeps defecting to the Knights at least.
Even more fun if one of the revolters get Il de France, then you end up with the french capital in North America. (If they own a prov. there off course)Tinus said:Recently I've seen Brabant, Flanders, Zeeland, Luxembourg AND Lorraine revolt when a civil war struck France. They all ended up defecting to Cologne, weirdest thing I've ever seen...
Btw, France got beaten up so bad, you won't believe it...Brittany, Guyenne, Bourbonnais, Provence, Auvergne and Orleanais all formed...France was left with Ile de France, Gascogne and Normandie...
Judas Maccabeus said:Cores, culture, and religion all play a part, IIRC. Though as Russia, I once got a Confucian, Han, non-core province by defection... but I think that was because there was nobody else to defect to.

If a country loses its capital because of revolts, the capital will move to the lowest-ID province owned by that country, which tends to be in North America. I believe this has been fixed in one of the recent betas, though.Troggle said:How can France's capital end up in North America?
Alexandre said:I thought that was only used for revolters. Does it also "direct" defections? It still doesn't help in identifying how provinces defect when there are no approriate countries in the neighborhood.

For a province to defect to a given country, it must either border it or be its core province.Nikolai II said:I don't know if it directs anything else, all I know is that the Knights, despite being alive, can get Malta to defect to them centuries before the 'Cede Malta to the Order' event. And the only possible cause I can imagine is that Malta is in the 'minimum' list.
