I imagine it's a combination of EU3 and the servers being hammered, but I've noticed a dramatic decline in posts in AAR threads. Anybody else seeing the same thing?

Atleast CK area feels pretty deserted but there are a lot more happening in the EUIII section. One thing might be that students are starting to have exams again. (I also have. What you are looking at, Im having a little well-deserved pause after multiple hours of reading Swedish and German)

I'd call it mostly EUIII. It's often this way when a new game comes out, especially one as highly anitcipated as EUIII. There are certainly those stillreading and responding, but most people are playing.
I've noticed an increase of AAR posting and views. It is safe to say that the AAR scene for the last few days have been very EU3-centric. There are atleast 3 AARs being started each day in that AAR forum.
Funny, I just start reading AARs again =) HOI 2 and EU III at the moment. Deciding if I want to buy EU III.
It's funny to see that exactly you are telling this, after all your Knytling Saga is quite the only CK AAR with still high amount of replys. But you're of course right, CK seems to be quite deserted right now.

And it's still a huge amount compared to others (Edit: This is meant as simply an observation and a you should call yourself lucky, not being jealous). The harder to use is certainly a reason for many people. If you have to reload your page twenty times before you see you have posted it can get quite annoying. And no, you weren't. Even as only a reader (I was only writing in German, and as I'm the only writer there it is rather easy to have a fix readership) I mentioned what you were talking about. Some parts of the forum simply deserted in the last days while EU3 is growing pretty fast.
It is always this way with new Paradox games =) I was under the impression that the activity has really increased. I say that with possibly wishful thinking because otherwise these forums and their technology is the same crappy one that has driven a lot of us away time after time. Really, out of just about every game company out there that I frequent, they are far and away the worst forum implementations I've ever seen.

I wish I could get away with doing that to our customers. roflmao. Can't run searches any more which generates even more traffic and more posts. Gosh I miss the old forums.

aye, we all see that. almost as soon as i was on the forum, i got hit with the "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." message. all that does is slow me down. it ain't gonna stop me.
that said, being slowed down does keep me from reading as many AARs as i would like to.

I can only speak for myself but, yes EUIII has stolen away a lot of of attention from the the other AAR-forums, especially CK
I can't have it all, since I am playing EUIII, modding EUIII, writing an EUIII AAR, reading EUIII AAR's and also testing EUIII
The time to do other things on the forum is therefor limited

The server is really annoying, doubly so when trying to do an AAR. Although hopefully Paradox will get it fixed....I miss the OT forum
Ahh, trip down memory lane. I remember after HoI1 coming out people wondering if it were the end of EU2 AARs. Activity goes in phases at the best of times, but trust me on this, there are plenty of AARs still being written
Remember those "n00blings" are the future of AARland
And as stnylan sez: It's only a phase. People are excited right now, and the server's having trouble keeping up in the bargain. Give it a few weeks and people will drift to their old haunts to catch up.

And the Dark Ages were the future of the Roman Empire.
I'm too much of a newbie to remember things like that. This is the first major release since I joined the forums and started writing AARs.
