In 1.02, you could go to war with a puppet without going to war with its master. Fixed in 1.03, but some messages reflecting this are missing.

Playing Italy, 1.03 NA:
Japan declared war on the Phillipines, but the only message displayed regarded the Japan-Phillipines war. Nothing displayed to indicate that the USA had declared war on Japan as a result.

However, checking the countries themselves on the Diplomacy screen, it indicates Japan is at war with both USA and Phillipines. So it looks like the actual actions of the parties are correct, but that the USA war entry simply wasn't reported.
