Declaration of independence technology bug

I noticed that in my game when the US declared independence from England it started with much higher technology than England. I think England was quite behind other European countries with a land tech of about 26 but the US started with something close to 50.

Did the US control any provinces other than english ones? In other words, was Massachusettes french, delaware english, etc. I've seen rebel nations formed from more than 1 original power before and perhaps the revolter got lucky on where it started?

No they were English provinces, and there were only 2 of them at the beginning. Well I'm not sure if this is really a bug or just a design issue. The starting US tech is possibly hardcoded in some event file, but I think it would make more sense if they started with whatever England had.

I don't think the starting tech for any nation is hardcoded. Maybe all new nations get an average of the countries they have contact with or something? I've also seen Austria form as rebels from Hungaria where Hungary had land tech 6, I (England) had 11 and Austria got 11...

I'm not sure, either. In testing some USA event changes, I see England (Great Britain I should say) and USA with very close technologies.

What shape was England in? It is usually among the leaders in technology in the long term games I've watched.

In my game England was actually in pretty bad shape. -3 stability most of the time and constant bankruptcies. Maybe Havard is right about new nations getting the average of other nations' technologies.
