Ever wonder how someone could be Defensive and Offensive or Innovative and Religious? We had to choose which direction we wanted to take our Countries back in EU3, why not now?

Before I get started, I believe a couple of Idea Groups called "Oppressive" and "Land" would need to be added along with Aristocratic and Plutocratic made available to all Gov. types for a total of 21 available Idea Groups.

New Idea Groups
  • Oppressive: May give Missionary strength, army maintenance reduction, stability cost reduction and settler increase
  • Land: May give bonuses to manpower, army tradition and morale

I know those are vague but I believe they should be added to give duality to Humanist and Naval/Maritime.

Now, for the main topic of this thread:

Decisive Idea Groups

  • Quality or Quantity
  • Offense or Defense
  • Aristocratic or Plutocratic
  • Trade or Espionage
  • Land or Naval/Maritime
  • Humanist or Oppressive
  • Humanist or Religious
  • Innovative or Oppressive
  • Administrative or Influence
  • Influence or diplomatic
  • Expansive or Economic
* Exploration was left free for now

Now this is just a rough draft and I'm just trying to put this concept out there to be discussed further and I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Also some Idea Groups would need buffs (such as espionage) to give more of a choice between the two.

The game's data files are full of AI countries scripted to take idea sets which you want to make mutually exclusive. A sampling:
  • 537 countries including Prussia, France, Portugal, Muscovy, and Austria take both Offensive and Defensive.
  • Six countries including Austria take both Influence and Diplomatic.
  • Seventeen countries including Austria and the Ottomans take both Influence and Administrative.
  • 17 countries including Lithuania, Naples, and the Ottomans take both Quality and Quantity.
  • 52 countries including England take both Expansion and Economic.
  • 437 countries including Vijayanagar and the Teutonic Order take both Espionage and Trade.
  • Amazingly, there's even an AI country that takes both Religious and Humanist: Qara Qoyunlu.
Also, "Oppressive" is an utterly terrible name for an idea group. "Authoritarian" would be better.
