There are situations in the game when you want to get rid from certain claim you don't want to press or even have.

Like strong claim on your vassals duchy which the game annoying ask you to usurp.
Like claim on your liege title and for this one he hates you and keep in prison without ransom.
Many different situations.

I suggest to have a way to simple renounce the claim.
For characters this could even give you some piety back. Church loves humility.

It seems more likely that a liege would demand a vassal to relinquish their claim than for the vassal to do willingly, but I see why it would be an useful feature.

There would also have to be a way to reclaim though. I recall in the 100 years war an English King renounced his claim to France and then picked it up again. Maybe an intrigue option to get the claim back, for the penalty of a big loss to piety, prestige, relations with the holder, and possibly a modifier called something like 'lier'?

It would have to be something the vassal could turn down though.

Maybe, but rulers didn't always have full control over their vassals.
It actually took quite a while for many of the kingdoms to go over to primogeniture inheritance, and before than it usually was either to share the land or the strongest's right (largest army).
I would guess many brothers were forced to swear fealty (probably renouncing claim), or to leave.

I guess I would rather have the ability to request others to give up their claims, than to be able to do so myself.
It could still be used in most of the situations mentioned by Unready (With the exception that the Other party / AI would have to instigate).
