December 2nd Fan Gathering Speculation and Reactions

So the fan gathering is almost among us. Many individuals in the other thread anticipate an announcement of a possible Grand Strategy game set in antiquity, possibly centered around Rome, Greece, or Persia.

In my opinion, the safest bets in terms of announcements are the following:

1. A possible 'heretic' themed expansion for CK2, as was hinted in a dev diary a few weeks ago.
2. A potential internal politics themed expansion for Stellaris, as Wiz has been trickling out images showing changes to the game's faction and Ethics systems via Twitter.
3. It's uncertain if an EU4 expansion will be announced especially considering the new patch for the game rolled out a few days ago. However, a new expansion announcement would be somewhat unsurprising if not expected.

Other potential announcements are completely uncertain to say the very least. Last year at Gamescom, which was when Paradox last announced a GSG, many fans congregated into three groups when it came to predicting what the game was going to be:

1. Victoria 2
2. A Space 4X-ish game (What we got)
3. The aforementioned antiquity game.
4. A humans only, highly political GSG in the vain of Dune
5. A Cold war game

Probably next to the space 4X game that eventually became Stellaris, the antiquity time period was the second most hoped-for. Judging what I've seen on the various forums these past few weeks, I'd guess that this theoretical game is what is most anticipated now, including from me. It would be a perfect way to phase out CK2, which is in its twilight years.

The hopeful optimist in me believes that a game spanning from the Diadochi Wars to the rise of the Princeps Emperors in Rome.

However, the realist in me believes that no new game will be announced at this fan gathering, as Paradox have already released two GSGs this year, which was two more than we got last year.

Or we might get Runemaster.

Its all in PDS' hands at this point.

So I think they could announce the "secret names" as well as the planned release date of CK2 dlc , or just the release date of TvF for Hoi4

Also Stellaris has a long waited 1.4 main patch , the could set a dete for that too

However, I do want to take the time to mention that we have something special prepared for the Stellaris fans for the fan gathering on Friday, December 2nd so be sure to tune in for the livestream if you're not already planning on coming to Sweden for the event!

So probably we will have more info about 1.5 Banks (but this will be strange before 1.4).
But we can dream... Make Rome Great Again!

Seconded, this is literally the game which anticipation keeps me up at night. Replacing CK2 in a year or so by an antiquity game with a nice emphasis on characters and internal political dynamics in different factions in antiquity is great. The potential to have greatly varying factions with greatly varying gameplay is simpley to great to pass and there's no one who doesn't like to scream Roma Victor! once in a while.

In my opion the game should also include India, the Eurasian steppe and China just to make sure that we don't need engine-taxing map expansions later on and to add even more variety to the possible campaigns. And the warring state period would be a great challenge to players in itself.

However, the pessimist in my thinks we will only see one or two expansions for existing games (stellaris and CK2 are decent guesses) or perhaps something from their White wolf entertainment takeover.

Well monks and mystics confirmed so far. Not a surprising reveal but a sollid one nonetheless. Seems like it could add another interesting feature to CKII. chances of an ancient empires game have decreased somewhat though :-(

Apparently yes. A new (and free) story-pack was a great (Pdo)x-mas gift ,
But I would not wait for the next PDX-CON in May for the official announcement of "What_must_not_be_named_but_everybody_is_expecting_to_be_announced" ....
