I protest against public on-time bonuses. Not many at all were present in Vnet at 18.50. Dr.Bob entered at 18.53, and then we had only 5 or 6 others.

Simply say who was not ontime.

Aladar is standardly editing everyone a deflation. Perhaps it's an idea if the GM presents from now on a list who wasn't on time, to prevent unfair bonuses?
This session Venice, Austria, Netherlands and Poland weren't on time (and neither were their subs).

-----------

I like to get a compensation for running a couple of years with 2% inflation and without the manufactory that the stock exchange event should give me.

And for the on-time the standard deflation please :)

To New Frontiers... (1567-1593)

In 1567 France was a vulnerable country. Whacked by the War of Religion that pitted Protestants, Catholics and Ultracatholic Hardliners against each other it was plagued by constant revolts and instability.

Paying head to this problematic situation the french foreign policy was cautious and accomodating, trying to defuse potential liabilities. To this end an agreement was reached with Venice - which though costly allowed France a secure southeastern flank for now.

Austria, However, was a more problematic matter. The Archduke in evermore aggressive ways made fool of french attempts of benign friendship. To and fro the negotiations went. Austria demanded to be allowed to attack and finish off Brandenburg for a NAP. France flatly refused this evil demand. It is unheared of in christian Europe that one power so greedily lusts for the extinction of another. Therefore France maintained that an attack on Brandenburg would make the NAP invalid. In the end all negotiations failed and France and Austria remained without NAP as the session started.
France continued to seek an arrangement with Austria along the lines of peaceful coexistance and abstinence of aggression against Brandenburg.
Austria agreed to the NAP and in the chaos of the session managed to create the impression they were going to adhere to the Brandenburg-Clause as well. Thus the NAP was signed.

Austria now allied itself with Venice (something we had known about for some time) and then declared war on the Ottoman Empire. France condemned this attack, as it took place without any real reason and happened in bad grace.
The brave Sultan, however, answered the call of war with magnificent determination. Facing better weaponry and two foes he nonetheless managed to fight them to a standstill, first at sea, driving the Venetians back to where they had come from and later on in the Balkans as well. The french people were very impressed by this glorious feat and consequently the Sultan has become evermore popular in all realms of France.

Meanwhile France used this NAP to deal with another expanionist power, namely Denmark. This strange realm in the north had long been a detrimental factor to the overall Balance of Power in the HRE. Cruelly putting pressure on Brandenburg, warring them and basically trying to squash them between the tidal forces of Austria and Denmark it had for a long time aroused the anger of France. Now it had gone one step too far. Enraging french merchants through unrestricted and relentless trading in Paris and flatly refusing to be in any way lenient with Brandenburg it demanded punishment. And France would wait no longer. The Grande Nation constructed a massive fleet of 420 galleys under the command of Admiral Beauregard. In the mean time 80.000 Cavalry and 60.000 Infantry were relocated to Brandenburg via our good friends, the Dutch. When all forces were in position war was coolly declared on Denmark and an invasion into Hannover and Braunschweig launched. The main french Cavalry Detachment was stationed in Oldenburg so as to be able to deal with any danish intrusions into our flank. Our Fleet set sail towards Kopenhagen. Soon, however, it was intercepted by danish warships. The consequent battle was an intense affair but quickly decided in France´s favor.

trafalgar_battle_engaging_the_fleet.jpg

Here Admiral Beauregard is crossing the danish line - thus breaking through their formation and compelling them to retreat in disarray.

Another more minor naval battle was quickly thereafter fought. It too was won by France. At this point, having unsuccessfully requested aid from other powers and witnessed the defeat of its fleet, Denmark gave up and ceded Hannover and Braunschweig to France which in turn gave them to Brandenburg. As part of this agreement France agreed to a NAP with Denmark for the next session (25.03.08) on the condition that Denmark does NOT dow Brandenburg (if they do the NAP becomes invalid).

Then something incredible happened. Austria dowed Brandenburg. This was simply too much. I had made it repeatedly clear to the Archduke that an aggression against Brandenburg was not an option. Now he laughed at french concerns and did his evil deed. At this point I decided that I simply could not idly stand by and watch Austria destroy Brandenburg. Therefore I put diplomatic pressure on Austria and thusly effected it to sign peace with Brandenburg.

Now, in 1593, Austria has many crimes to answer for. France has reached a point where it simply cannot tolerate austrian arrogance and aggression inside and outside of the HRE any longer. Austria is strongly requested to tone down its act or it will face a very grim future. Negotiations are always an option but this time Austria will have to engage in them earnestly and not as a ploy to hide its true, unsavory motives.

And the only reason I did not enter Vnet earlier was that I rebooted my computer so as to prevent CTDs.

But if you were there, I'd be very glad to leave it to you to decided ontime bonuses :) I just wanted it to have a meaning, so that it doesn't turn into some kinda thing everyone gets no matter what.

Danish AAR 1567-1593

The Danish realm was governed by the great king Frederik, and all prospered. In the cold north of the New World, Danish settlers found themselves at home, and they expanded the lands ruled under the waving Dannebrog. Expeditions were also launched to the warm Caribbean, but the Danes could just not stand the heat, so the islands were left to the Spainards and Swedes instead.

But king Frederik did not only have large frozen widths of lands in his head. The Russians had done a great deal of expansion, so the king decided to help the wounded Polish kingdom back on its feet, together with the blue brothers from the peninsula. The First Spring War was fought, with immediate and undeniable victory for the western alliance. Sweden were brought two territories and Poland took large parts of former Lithuanian land.

But that was not it. Not many years later, the Second Spring War was fought, with the same nation involved, and victory was even faster. Sweden was given Karelia the whole coast around the Gulf of Finland, effectively sealing the Russians off from the Baltic. Poland took Ukraine and the Russian Czar was suddenly only Lord of Russians. The Danish army did a good job in the war.

But Denmark was not only mercenaring in Russia for other causes than her own. She was treacherously attacked by France who finally decided to take what she had threatened to take for several years: Hannover. With an army of over 100.000 soldiers, she marched across the borders into Denmark. The newly ascended king Christian IV quickly gave up hope of defying the invaders, as the French navy won a decisive battle outside Oldenburg. It was obvious he had not been caring enough for the once so proud Konglige Danske Flåde. He was however puzzled as to how the French had transported their army, but it was obvious: the small nation of Holland had let them pass through the swamps, into Brandenburg and then to Denmark. There was little choice for Christian, and peace negotiations were short. Braunschweig and Hanover were ceded to France, who the very next year passed the rich lands on to Brandenburg.

The Danes were beaten for the first time in a war. After the successful campaigns of Hans, the violent rule of Christian II, the peaceful explorer Frederik I, Chrisitan III The Kind's victories against the Visby pact and Frederik II's great colonial expansion and Russian endeavours, it was now time for a Danish monarch to taste the bitterness of defeat.

But hope shines. The colonies are now a safe place of Christians and friends. Christian IV have even personally been visiting the larger cities, and prosperous times are surely the future.

Sweden 1567-1593

The 1570s was bad for Sweden. Constant failure of missionaries, a brief civil war, debts to repay etc. These were dark times indeed, but it after all turned a bit brighter. Sweden took part of a coalition which was formed against Russia. Poland, Denmark, and Sweden took up arms to stop the tyrant Russians. The first war gave Sweden the Russian held Ugric territories in the east, while the second war secured Estonia and a decent part of the North Sea coast for Sweden.

Meanwhile an expedition was launched to the Caribbeans and the brave explorers of Sweden secured many islands to the crown despite the heavy competition of the Spaniards, who having noticed the Swedish expansion in the area, started colonizing too. As of 1593 the situation seems to be stabilized in Sweden and mayhap the following years will bring a bright future to the great Nordic people.

Around the world,

In 1567 a new nation was born, namely The Netherlands. However the new nation didn't even make his first baby steps when she was dowed by Iberia. Nations all around Europe expressed their dislike of the situation and many, including Sweden, prepared an intervention force to help the Dutch cause. Eventually Iberia gave up due to the growing international pressure and so the dutch could live on peacefully.

Though this wasn't the only conflict. There was a long and bloody war against The Porta, Venice and Austria thought its high time to force the Turk out of Europe, but they were proven wrong. Gradually the Turkish army and navy could change the tides of the war and in the end they emerged victoriously.

Not much happened apart from this during these times, but some say the darkness of wars might engulf Europe once again in the next century if not sooner..

Brandenburg 1567-1593

New age have come. New era of prosperity.

In first few years agreement was sign between King of England and Joachim II Hector, Elector of Brandenburg. The pact stated that Margraviate will sell it's possessions in North America for a good price. He also negotiated for rights for colonization in many different parts of world. Also the was situation where new nation of Netherlands become part of European family but soon after that become also a target for unright forces of Iberian Kingdoms, King Joachim joined to europewise condemnation of this war which soon ended in favor of Netherlands leaving them be.

This was last of the great deeds he made for his country.

In 1571, after death of his father John George become new Prince of Brandenburg.

373px-Johann_Georg_Brandenburg_MATEO.jpg

He was his father son and he continued his work.
Not long after he took the power he sent first conquistadors and explorers to South America and Africa. They were very efficient in their explorations and soon new maps were created by the most noble of Brandenburg's cartographers. People were eager to move from this place of constant wars to new world where they could start live like they wanted.

image_071.jpg

Having new maps of this uncharted territory Brandenburg started colonization, which couldn't be possible without money from England for colonies in NA, and good relations with Spanish Kingdom. Soon rich provinces become part of Margraviate.
In the meantime there was some minor political misunderstandings between Netherlands and Brandenburg considering colonial territories in South America but soon it was overcame.

In this time new colonies and trade posts was established in SA and first settlment was created in Africa.

In Europe Brandenburg's people was living in long forgotten peace. Even with great wars taking it's places in the east and south-east, it wouldn't create any wrong atmosphere inside a Margraviate.

Just before end of this era there was two big events. First France, in the name of Liberté(for Hanover), égalité(may all north German people have it's own country in Brandenburg and become equals in it) and fraternité(We are brothers dear French people!) took Hanover from Denmark and presented it to Brandenburg.

After that evil king of Austria treacherously attack Brandenburg lands without any provocation, and without French Nation which demanded to stop this war fate of Brandenburg would be terrifying.

Ottoman Empire 1567-1593

things where quite arround the ottoman empire in the early days of this session
most of the census was used to build galeys, reinforce the army as the sultan knew never to trust cristian dogs, especially not those on his west border
and it wasn't to long before he was proven right

a hundred thousend turks where send to the east to take advantage of a casus belli on the mughal empire and his ally
altought the war didn't take to long and mughals where vassalt in a matter of months we stil lost a fair amount of troops in this effort
just when the ottoman troops where moving in india the following news was received :
venice and austria declared war upon our fair country, and in there greed where demanding vast tracks of land.
peace was signed with the indians the moment we heard this and the rest of the army returns home

the homefront :
a relative large army of the austrians invaded hungary, using there new and advanced weapons to quickly siege and assault the entire region
fortunatly the sultan was prepared for such a possible attack and had stationed a massive army in the balkans arround the capitol
the sultan knew that tryng to retake hungary would be suicide even tho our troops outnumber the austrian and venice combined, the losses would be great and potential losses could loose us the war
so he ordert his troops to hold the line at the river and mountainpasses along the border, forcing the austrians to either make a attempt at crossing the river or stop there advance
alowing the ottoman forces to concentrate atsea, where the turkish imperial fleet batle the venician armada for control of the sea

when the austrian arrived at the river they made 1 bold attempt to cross it in serbia: the entire austrian army crossed the river, only to be waited on the other side by the full turkish army, both sides clash as what would be the secund biggest batle of the war
and after a long fight the austrians are forced back acros the river motly thanks to the cavalry charge of the 60 000cavalry that where hiding a little further in near the mountains
after this batle the austrians never really tryd to cross again

at the same time at the sea the batle was going both ways, 1batle the ottos won the other the venicians won however 1thing was clear, the ottos lost alot of batles but always took alot of venician ships with them and eventually the venicians found themself outnumbert and pushed back to venice while at the same time, all the islands fell to ottoman forces
till only creta and iona where left standing
however at 1 point the venicians managed to gain a victory at sea and use the time to sail to constantinople and land a massive army of 100 000 men at the capitol, fortunatly the city with the best defences of all times managed to hold out on a assault from the venician army
and before the venicians managed to recover they where routed north by a joined ottoman army that was forced to move away from the austrian front
a 95 000 venician army faced a 100 000 turkish army in constantinople and where crushed, the remains of the army where chased down till they reached transylvania and escaped trough there to the austrian front, out of 100 000men they only had 25k cavalry left and soon after that stabhitting began on the venice
with this batle the war was pretty much won, the fleet back retreating to venice, in the end 1more attempt was made by venice to lift crete but failed to, and soon after they asked for peace

during all this the russian tzar saw fit to blackmail the ottos for 500gold and a nap, something the ottos didn't really mind nearly asmuch as if they would have dowed at this critical houre however shortly after the blackmail was agreed peace was signed, but since the good sultan is a man of his word he pays the 500g eitherway :)

with the surrender of the islands near athene and cyprus the war was finaly over with a added condition nobody would fight eachother for 10years

the sultan however has been using the peace to rebuild his army and navy and buy the technology to be on par with western military
as right now the truce is ending and the turkish fleet is bigger then ever before, with a army bigger then any nation on this planet soon revenge will be ours and vienna and venice will be burned to the ground

POLAND 1567 - 1593 - The Polish Gods of War

Batory.jpeg

Defiled Russians make an obeisance to Stefan Batory and polish leaders.

And so the Russians were defeated! Despite the internal turmoils and rebelions Poles, Lithuanians, Ruthenians, Balts, Germans, Hungarians and Slovaks joined against eastern danger and with Mars help smashed russian forces! As we can hear from stories of our great leader Toniowski, two major attacks on Russia went very well and Commonwealth retoke all ruthenian culture provinces. Also Sweden, who together with Denmark helped in invasion, gained some lands (baltic ports). Those victories we mostly owe to r.i.p. Stefan Batory, our magnicifient king and crown field marchal. His amazing tactial skills made polish army invincible. Even Moscow itself could not resist him! We also owe great ammount of respect to Ottoman Empire, Denmark and Sweden whitout who we would not deal with Russia so easily.

Thanks to offensive against Russia Poland get its hands on brand new maps of Siberia and other eastern territories. So far we use this knowledge to claim coast of Amur delta.
Speaking about colonies. Polish establishments in North America seems to be secure thanks to deal with Kingdom of England. We are a little worried about Netherlands trade post in Poscagoula, but we hope this small piece of land will go to Poland as a symbol of good relations.

It seems Poland is doing very well, but there were and still are some shadows covering all shine of proud - nobles. His Majesty done everything he could to stop growth of their influence, but conflict was unavoidable. The disgraceful piece of paper, so called Henrykanian Articles, was sign and now the court is force to wage a war against nobles in order to keep Commonwealth as a united structure.

In international affairs Poland keep good old policy. We remain in very good relations with our allies Sweden and Denmark, keep warm feelings toward Brandenburg, have respect for Ottoman Empire, stay friendly to France and England and neutral to Austria. Have hope to establish good cooperation with Netherlands. ... About relations with Russia there is no need to write ;)

Holland 1593-1611

The ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam had been good to him, Pieter Both would not deny that, but after decades spent watching the massed throng pass through them he had yearned for the relative calm and close knit Amsterdam of 30 years gone.
An Amsterdam that was not the trading centre of the world, that was not home to fleets of warships outnumbered only by the merchantmen they protected. But Pieter Both was a patriot, and he was more importantly in service to the Stadholder himself and a quiet retirement in Friesland was not something he would get, or would want in any case.

So that was how Both had arrived here, looking over a fetid swamp from the lofty vantage point of a Calvinist church, the only Calvinist church in this part of the world in fact. Yanam was not a pleasant place to be perfectly honest, situated square in the malaria belt of Asia and home to another 5,000 armed Indian tribal warriors and god knows how many other savages. But Maurice had commanded and Both had obeyed with declarations of undying loyalty that seemed impulsive in retrospect.

Still, things were progressing well, the reknowned Dutch Calvinist workethic had begun to make itself felt in the construction of a trading outpost and the native Indians had been mostly subdued by the presence of a 4,000 man detachment from the Home Army under his not entirely incompetent command. Trading ships were becoming a more frequent sight, and barracks had finally been erected for the soldiers after months of rough camping. Reports of chinese soldiers making their presence felt to the north and south could be dismissed at his men's unfamiliarity with the various differences between the dark skinned squinty eyed natives and only Portugal possessed any possessions in striking distance of the fledgling colony.

Distracted by his reverie Pieter only just registered the familar shouts from the beach indicating that a fluyt had arrived and was disembarking its cargo of settlers, merchants, goods, ammunition and most importantly; information.

Pieter reached the cabin of the ship with reasonable, but not unseemly, haste and without the preamble and introductions and other variations on the pissing competitions that graced the courts of Paris, Madrid and Venice demanded to know what of the world outside the murderously hot subcontinent.

The news was momentous indeed, Europe was doing its best to tear itself apart, Austrian and Venetian forces fought for domination of the Balkans with the Turk, whilst the Archduke also defended his German dominions from the attacks of France and the elector of Brandenburg, aided by Denmark. Poland and Russia were waging brutal war on the steppes and the banks of Amsterdam were heaving with the frenzied demands for war loans and material.

But such matters of geopolitical importance soon faded into the back of ones mind in the daily routine of life in the newest Dutch Governorship, years past with steady progress. Yanam became selfsustaining, with an enterprising beer company even setting up operations there despite complaints that it would probably not help worker productivity in the long run.
New trading posts began to sprout in Cochin, in Sandar, Palakimedi and in Kalikata and thousands of indians had been assimiliated into the population, providing enough labour for the brewery and even to expand the security forces of the Indies to numbers similiar to the continental army commanded by Maurice, though Pieter did not flatter himself to think his army or generalship comparable.

But one must do ones best after all, and bringing a stable Dutch presence to this populous and for the most part barbaric land was something Pieter Both could well accept written on his tombstone

Venetian AAR 1593 - 1611

As the Doge had feared for a while, the Ottoman Dictator did not look kindly upon the rightious nation of Venice. Pirates started to appear in the Venice habour, preventing part of your armies to leave the capital. This however, would prove to turn the tide later.

Soon after came the war with OE, large number of forces invaded the balcans and a mighty fleet outnumbering the Venetian Navy was bloackading our capital.

Being rather unprepared for war due to the Doge being at a family reunion, no move was made against the turks. Forces was build in Italy, awaiting the progress of the turks. Most of balcan was at this point lost, and 50.000 soldiers were sent to clear some of the occupied lands there. This was a limited success and soon after the army was surrouded and destroyed.

Venice however had many more troops and with a stable economy more troops were build in the heart of Venice.

Now our Habsburg brothers joined the war and after several battles between them and the turks, Habsburg got the upper hand on OE, forcing them back in the balcans.

The turks now invaded Italy itself, with help from the Spaniard who allowed the muslim hordes to soil the lands of southern Italy. More than 100.000 turks came from the south - none left. 150.000 Venetian forces killed every single soldier and 2 generals despite having no leaders.

At the same time the turks had sent troops into Africa sieging several provinses. The African Corp however was strong and while the invaders in Italy was slain, so were the invaders in Africa.

During the war the Venetian Navy was rebuild and now numbered 550 galleys, still less than the turkish fleet but supirior. No adrimal was to be found thou, so navalbattles would be dangerous. With the turkish fleet still in Venice Habour a daring plan to take Tripoli was made. 45.000 troops under our new general lead the charge and took Tripoli with ease. Now the tide was turning for the turks, with the invasions of Italy and Africa repelled, the CoT in Tripoli lost, Habsburg and Venetian forces retaking all of balcans. Christian rebels all over the Ottoman Dictatorship were trying to get rid of the ottoman oppressors, helping the rightous war of Habsburg and Venice.

Then came the french deceit, surely Habsburg can tell it better than me.

Spain now decleared war on Venice, but the assault on Nice was ill prepared and 25.000 spaniards lost there lives due to attricion on the first day of siege. Meeting over 100.000 Venetians outside Genoa Spain signed peace
in return of a 40 years NAP.

The venetian forces moved north to the Habsburg border and joined our brothers the Habsburg in there war against the french. This ended the Ottoman invasion with a WP and 50 years NAP for Habsburg and Venice with OE, and peace with France.

Tripoli later managed to break free from the turkish hordes, and a liberation force was sent from Venice. After repelling some "unlawfull" turkish pirated our general landed in Tripoli and quick took the city. Despite our truce with the evil hordes war was once again decleared, which lead to the assimilation of Tripoli which was intended for trading purposes only.

After much negotiation peace was signed for Malta and gold to Austria. Had we at the time been aware of the trucebreaking, peace would have been much more expensive for the Turks however.

Ontime reward: Deflation (not my fault no one told me of the new network)
AAR-reward: Deflation

Venice and Spain had desided it be in mutual interest for Spain to sign over all Italian provinses in return of all South American provinses + a large sum of money.

Fair punishment to OE for breaking pirates rules and trucebreaking. Venice itselfs requires no edits for this.

Danish AAR 1593 - 1611

The Kingdom of Denmark was in a position of choice. And it was not an easy choice that had to made by king Christian IV, the Lazy. His best advisors had presented three possible outcomes for the king, and they convinced him he had to choose, or recent destruction would surely be upon the Kingdom.

The first option was to maintain the present diplomatic situation, and muster forces for an invasion of Brandenburg together with Denmark's allies Austria. Brandenburg was however protected by France, a nation rich and powerful enough to make such a campaign very dangerous and hard.
The second option was to declare the Kingdom neutral, and surrender all interests of expansion in North Germany for the time being, and let things happen without interference form the Danes. Perhaps there would come situations where Denmark could benefit by breaking said neutrality and swiftly intervene in one of the factions' causes. This option would however impair Denmark's diplomacy as well as her growing economy.
The third option was to abandon the allies Austria, sign a deal with Brandenburg and France, and engage the Habsburgs on the battlefield. This option would ruin all future relations with Austria, and possibly so even with Austria's second ally Venice. It would create a feeble area of friendship with Denmark's neighbour Brandenburg and a somewhat stronger bond with the most powerful continental kingdom, France.

The lazy Christian choose the third option, and his choice was received with mixed enthusiasm among the Danish nobles. Several rich landlords refused to accept the decision and took their departure or even made open revolt. But the majority of the borderland people greeted the king's decision, as peace would be restored to their homes.

So, there was war with Austria, whom caved in to demands even before Danish armies had crossed the border. Berg and Kleve was given to Denmark, though they were still a long way from Copenhagen. Soon after peace was settled, Brandenburg moved her troops into Pomerania, and took control of the regions the two nations had agreed upon, naturally without resistance. A few years later, Denmark made her move according to the treaty, and Oldenburg, Münster and Westfalen were officially declared owned by King Christian IV of Denmark.

But Denmark was no longer an European nation only; her colonial area was expanding. Not so much in terms of territory, but definitely in population. Christian, rightfully entitled the Lazy, couldn't bother to fund expeditions to settle previously unsettled areas, so colonists were sent to already founded colonies, and as the years passed, these colonies grew to cities. A new base of wealth was being developed by the Danes in the cold Canada.

In the East, former neighbour of Denmark Poland had been engaged in war with the Russians for many, many years. The war dragged on, back and forth, with both nations suffering badly. But as the new 17th Century became less and less new, Poland got the upper hand, forcing Russia to accept a humiliating peace. Enormous amounts of acres of colonized Siberia were given to Poland.

The violent warring in and around the Mediterranean also reached an end. The Ottoman Turks were the ones suffering most, with no real winners, except Spain who got their beloved NAP.

Sweden 1593-1611

And so there was a new civil war in Sweden. Why did it happen? Nobody knows. It seems we have developped a cool new festival thinger in which our armies with our leaders, saves for the most crappy one, start revolting and plundering. Just like an english football match.

Anyways, after the civil war Karl tried to restore the economy at least to its former shape with more or less success. His progress was hindered with dozens of political assasinations, plagues, political crisises, but in the end it seemed that he was succeeding. During his reign he continued the colonization of the Carib area, and started converting the pagans in Africa, and the heretics in Estonia.

Not counting the civil war, it was a peacefull era for Sweden.

In Europe however there were many bloody wars, deceits, betrayals and plunderings. In the east Poland and Russia were fighting their ethernal battle which now ended with Polish victory. Russia had to cede a big chunck of her Siberian colonies. Now, both countries are facing serious revolts.

In the same time France, Brandenburg, Denmark and the Ottoman Empire were fighting Austria and Venice. It lasted almost a decade and its not clear yet that who won the war.

Back in Sweden Gustav became the king. It seems that he is a gifted genius and mayhap he will show his frightening military skills to Europe. But where? Its not yet known.
