I have realized that Byzantine succession jumps around a lot, it's like the empire is in a constant crisis of the third century with no dynasty ever remaining for more than one ruler on the throne. That's not how the byzantine empire really was, for the most part a dynasty would have two or three rulers before being replaced and I think that the wya to fix this in ck2 (or ck3 for that matter) is to give them the decadence mechanic and have it affect the elections as long as your dynasty have a low decandence it increases your chance or reelection but if it rises which it usually does a few generations after holding a powerful title, you get voted out (or even factioned out).
