What do people think about player based Loans?

You could offer a loan agreement to a Vassal and the default could be a claim o their title or a strong hook?
The same could be said for neighbours where the default on a payment could be a financial cause beli.

That sounds awfully close to the sin of usury!

Only certain groups of peoples could use such a system, i think that Christians and Muslims were against usury in CK3 timeframe, Muslims in general have an interesting economic doctrine.

Rather the other way areound I think. Beeing in debt to your liege sounds like a very good way to ulimatly loose your land.

They have already mentioned that holy orders can loan you money (as they historically did). While you are in their debt, they might make certain requests that you would be hard pressed to refuse. Such requests could be for one of your sons to join the order, or for the lease of a holding in your realm to those benevolent defenders of the faith.

CK2 AGOT has a banking system controlled through societies. Players can join an existing bank or create their own custom one. They can lend money to other lords, and if the lord doesn't repay they can either use a special casus belli to go directly to war with whoever defaulted on their loan, or they can offer to support a different lord to try and usurp the defaulter's titles, on the condition that the new lord assume the debts of the old one. It also makes a good amount of passive income from interest if the player owns the bank themselves.

Yes, this is what I recall too:

After founding a Holy Order you might see some events, much like in Ck2, where the order can gain more Holdings in many Realms. And yes, these events do often involve loans and threats of godly wrath.

Loans would be appreciated, emergency taxes raised during war, the cinque ports as well as their generic version.

Charles the Bold takes Guelders because the ducal title was used as security for a loan from Charles to the Duke

Muslims in general have an interesting economic doctrine.

They have interesting ways to get around religious prohibitions. Banks can't charge interest. So if you want to buy something on a loan, the bank may instead buy it for you and then sell it to you above list price. So they get their interest without calling it that

I think it would be the other way around - if you have a hook on a vassal, you could request a "loan." Maybe you you forget about it, or maybe your vassal dies, and it never gets paid back.

Basically, a reverse gift. It looks like you always have the option to give gifts to people, but why does nobody give you a gift

Because the AI cannot reasonably expect the player to improve their opinion because they got a gift. Players will just go "oh cool, thanks for the money... now I can afford to invade you".

AI can offer marriages in ck2 based off what you'd do if AI, so don't see why they couldn't be expanded to give gifts as well

You are both correct. In Anno 1800, the AI often offers gifts, and yes, you can attack them after they do so.

But if this is added in CK3 (it won't be), I think it should be a nominal amount so we know what the AI is thinking of us. Of even a simply event that says "Prince X gave you a large vase." If the AI is able to seduce and murder people, can't they also sway people? I want to know if they are trying to sway me.

I would love to be able to lend out an arbitrary sized loan to any other character and illicit them myself. Imagine if instead of a decision, borring from jewish lenders was done through communicating with the heads of various banking guilds.

You could have a way to search through your realm to willing lenders based on the sum they're willing to lend. In many religions usury is a sin when done to a person of the same faith. So you may be able to ask for 'gift' loans or interest free loans from certain characters at great expense (and maybe a hook) or you can start paying interest to the lenders of other faiths.

Imagine clans of jewish bankers across the map thriving as npc off lending. Maybe with good relations you can get trade deals. Tough luck getting loans if you expel them though!
