So! I was thinking, I'd really like to have a Communist revolution in the US of A for the bizarro factor.
So, hey! I reckoned I'd just push up the CON and MIL of the lower classes by outlawing as many unions as possible, censoring the press and generally being an authoritarian git.
It's, um, it's not working too well.

Now, I'm aware that socialism doesn't spread until sometime relatively late. When does socialism start popping up, then, is my question, and how exactly is a revolution sparked?

On beforehand thanks!

Socialism began in 1848 and soon, angry pops will turn socialist. When Communism become available (don't remember when), very angry/militant socialists pops will turn commies.

In order to have a revolution:
You need either to have a commie revolt controll 1/3 of your country or your capital city (check which pop is revolting); you can try the ballot way: with CP elected, democracy won't last long.

In my current game, the USA elected the Free Soil Party (Anarcho-liberal), sometime in the early/mid-1860s, and they've stayed in power ever since. It's currently 1878, and they were just re-elected yet again.

Not quite 'socialist', but darn close... and if the AI can do it, I'm guessing you can, too.

Wait, they were elected again? Doesnt having the Anarcho-Liberals in power convert the govt type to presidential dictatorship, meaning that there are no elections?

Though I guess the USA is just that democratic and awesome that we can have suffrage even under a dictatorship. (zing! :p )

Uh, Anarcho-Liberal is practically as far from socialist as possible. Think of Anarcho-Liberal as Anarcho-Capitalist: Pure capitalists that want as low taxes and as little government intervention as possible. They are basically the polar opposites of communists, and still very far from socialists (social-democrats).

Keep doing stuff to increase lower class militancy such as outlaw union and remove social reforms and drive your poor taxes to 100% (which will make your population socialist). Socialists with high militancy equals Communists. Most of your country voting for the CP means an incoming proletarian revolution.

Actually, in Vicky, I don't think they are here to represent nowadays libertarianism.
It's more "militant liberalism" (ie political liberalism) in a jacobine fashion.
