I apologize in advance if I am cluttering up the mod thread with a request for information that might be available in page no. 20, but I have to ask.

To give you some background, I am tired of seeing death by natural causes on most characters, especially young ones. Many characters seem to die a perfectly natural death at 40, while hale and healthy. At the very least, I want to give some new causes of death that will be more relevant and add a bit of spice to the game. Like if a character who was a scholar dies at 30 because of natural causes, I want the eulogy to read, 'died falling down the stairs of library' so that it is at least more relevant to the character's life.

So what I want to know is - how and when does the game decide it is time for a character to die naturally? And once it has decided that, how can I get it to choose from a set of causes that I have created based on the dead person's traits?

A possible alternative is to give a character a nickname upon death using an event to give a nickname such as John Smith the Scholar (died falling down the stairs of library)

Add this to 00_Action.txt
nick_the Scholar_(died_falling_down_the_stairs_of_library) = {}

Add this to a .csv file (or create your own .csv file) in the folder "Localisation"
nick_the Scholar_(died_falling_down_the_stairs_of_library);the Scholar (died falling down the stairs of library);le Croisé;der Kreuzfahrer;;El Paladín;;;;;;;;;x

Add these in the Trigger/Option within an event after a death
is_alive = no
has_nickname = no #to stop the same character being continually given a nickname but will also stop characters already having a nickname to have a new death related nickname
trait = scholar
death = { death_reason = death_accident }
give_nickname = nick_the Scholar_(died_falling_down_the_stairs_of_library)

I am still new to modding but I am sure when a death occurs it can trigger an event but for more info on how to set up the event you will need to ask someone else, I'm afraid.

People tended to die a lot younger in those days due to various factors, which could include diseases, infections, uncleanliness, lack of medication, etc. So I don't find it surprising people are dying of natural causes at these ages.

I don't have access to the game to test this at the moment, but can we get some more mileage out of the 'death_trait' cause of death? Are the traits that can affect that hardcoded? Maybe you could have a trait get added, then use it to kill the character by event, and localize the death cause for that trait to say what you want? Somehow doubt it'll work, but maybe its a launching point.

Wouldn't that appear as "The Scholar (died falling do..."? Whether or not its too long, that seems like an odd way of doing things. You could just assign them a trait instead.

Hmm. I suppose I was trying to think outside the box but adding a death_trait does sound easier although the nickname option would be easier to spot :)

I didn't realise there was a limit to the number of characters in a nickname in which case scrap my idea.
