Hearts of Iron 4 has always been a buggy game, but this last DLC certainly takes the crown. While it has less bugs than version 1.10.1 it's not nearly as polished as it should be.

I fear adding another layer of new game mechanics after Barbarossa comes out will only make it worse. So please, work on another bug fixing patch before Barbarossa.

This:

And this:

Are only the most recent that determined me to make this topic. But there are many others and not limited to Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey.

I found this:

This:

This:

And this was said to have been fixed in 1.10.2 but wasn't:

And that's not even mentioning the small things like this:

Or this:

I had a historical game as Canada, so my intervence was minimal, and moved to defend Greece. Greece lost because Bulgaria demanded territory and Greece accepted. While Bulgaria was part of the Axis and Greece part of the Allies. And they were at war with each other.

When playing Yugoslavia and going for Limited-Self government, I noticed the regions I grant autonomy to (only to take them back after 1 year or so and magically fix all of Yugoslavia's problems because logic, but this is more of a design error than bug) will magically lose their factories.

When playing USSR, the Allies used collaboration governments of former Axis members to create a true border gore in Europe. It usually doesn't take in-land territory it has no land connection to, but this rule doesn't seem to apply for their own collaboration governments.

We have been promised Corneliu Zelea Codreanu so maybe the devs are planning us a secret Christmas patch that would fix all of this. Fat chance but it's a nice thought, realistically, I think Paradox took a break like almost everyone this time of the year. But after the new year, I hope you will fix further the current patch before moving fully to Barbarossa.

After a suprising amount of support on this topic, I came to believe I'm not the only one wishing for a fix patch before moving on. But there is only one way to show what the community wants because I can't speak for everybody. To actually have the community show that they agree with open letter-ish. If you agree, please drop a like or agree and possibly link a topic to a bug that bothers you a lot. The devs can't hunt all bugs but they can hunt those in the spotlight. Hopefully, if a lot of people show that they want an extra bug fixing patch, the devs may consider it.

There are big expectations around Barbarossa and I bet the developers want to make something big. But please, make sure you build Barbarossa on a solid foundation. The current version is full of bugs and unless you fix most of these before Barbarossa, the only direction the number of bugs can go after Barbarossa is up.

I'd say even to the point of, if Barbarossa needs to be delayed further, so be it. I anticipate a lot of the problem with these recent issues is because the work was done outside of the company.

Quite agree. I have been cataloguing numerous fixes needed for Turkey such as:
- At least three possible situations in which Ataturk can continue leading the country after dying
- Many other inconsistencies and oversights in the succession events
- A lack of sufficient checks on independence and faction membership on the foreign policy focuses, allowing Turkey to form and lead a faction while a puppet of another country
- Press the Austro-Hungarian Claim does not function as intended due to its attempting to piggy-back off a similar focus in the German tree; this is a problem firstly because by the time Turkey can take this focus, Germany will assuredly have already absorbed Austria and probably Czechoslovakia (even on non-historical), but more importantly because the decision to form Austria-Hungary from the spirits applied by this focus requires the German focus and has not been updated to account for Turkey. I suggest a brand new decision be scripted to allow Austria-Hungary to be formed with Turkish sanction without German cooperation.

I wouldn't hold my breath, this is classic paradox. Introduced new mechanics and features before fixing the old ones. They keep piling on stuff before fixing stuff, it's been a problem for years, and hoi4 is not the only game that has suffered from this. It's all so exhausting because we all love these games and there are no competition, but for some reason they keep insisting on this draconian strategy, probably because it makes the most money. And I can't really fault them for that, it's just that they used to be different(indie) and I used to hold them to a higher standard than other gaming companies. Nowadays it's almost all the same across the board.

Although a mac fix in 1.10.3 is great, it's also the only fix and almost insulting.

I remember when HOI4 came out it was very bad. They have to spend like 6 month making bug fix patches. It not that bad now but still have many bug and issues. Does Paradox have Quality Assurance team? Seem like not.

I'd love to see some fixes. I'm particularly keen to see these in the naval area. Firstly some general fixing so that naval battles of all sorts work well. Elsewhere there have been some posts showing how daft subs can be. I think it was suggested that these broken dynamics are the reason the AI really doesn't do much in terms of building new models - whether that's the case or not a fix to AI naval build behavior would be great. I'd really not mind paying for this as an 'expansion' although clearly we really should get these fixes free.

Anyway the worst thing Paradox could do is to expand the game in a way where the AI is even more stretched.

I'd really love a better air war experience too, and I'd not be surprised to see some changes there. For the real McCoy though I guess it's wait 'til HoI5 - happily that'll have no bugs on launch :)

I reinstalled HoI2 today just to compare - I can't imagine how many hours I played on that (and HoI1). Much as I loved it there's clear and rather wonderful progress to the current incarnation. We just need a bit more polish on the areas that don't sell the game, but that do make it great.

This is the problem if not exist a good competitor for PDX they continue with these dance...if another competitor stop the music, for PDX the dance are ended!

Also my two cents here..
- Ataturk dies too early(like always). The historical date is 10th November 1938. Since 1.0.2 I have never seen him make past June 1937 even when retired before his situation gets worse.
- Ottoman focus to form Saadabad Concordat faction bypasses the next focus of puppeting Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and they are not puppeted. To be able to not bypass the focus and puppet them you need to be already in a faction and be its leader.
- Also the Ottoman coring mechanisms are already cancerous as they are rn but there is also a bug. To core Syria you need Kuwait which is not intended.
These are the ones i can remember rn. I'm sure there is more and i didn't even play all the Turkis focuses and other Balkan states.

They’ve already started development on Barbarossa. Having a bugfix patch before then would likely mean forking the code to fix 1.10 bugs, THEN merging it back with 1.11. That could be a lot of work!

I want many existing bugs fixed, but I wouldn’t want PDX stopping to get them in before 1.11 when 1.11 could break the bugfix.

Instead, I’d like something like the post-MtG experience where they fixed a lot of bugs AFTER the expansion.

Also adding bugs coming from mtg like AI also removing the ships on production regardless of progress, can't make offensive line while naval invading and many more, then lar came and 1 convoy visual bug appears. Then another update came and again introduce another set of bugs. There are many more bugs, I have been watching the bug reports from time to time and notice that they only reply to them when there new dlc/update that came up. Its a bad practice to make, especially when making the players/customers wait for months just for them receive another patch hoping for a certain bug but ends up disappointing because they didn't only fix it but also adds another set bugs.

While this is a good instinct, the issues mentioned in this thread are pretty much confined to scripting issues in areas unlikely to require further changes in Barbarossa (to use my own earlier post as an example, the issues I mentioned are all in either the Turkish focus tree or the Battle for the Bosporus Turkish events, and it hardly seems likely that Paradox would be touching either file for Barbarossa unless it was to fix these kinds of bugs in the first place!)

HoI4, like all modern Paradox games, is built in a modular fashion which makes modding easier but would also mean that "merging" these kinds of fixes with whatever has already been done for Barbarossa should be completely trivial. If the majority (if not the totality) of issues mentioned in this thread cannot be solved *due to conflicts with in-progress development* then that just means there are bigger problems here.
