I'm currently around 1520 and have just formed Russia. The problem I'm having is that all of the states to the south of me (Crimea, Kazan, Golden Horde, etc.) are either directly or indirectly allied with Ottomans (Kazan is a vassal of GH and Ottomans will enter the war on their side if I attack). Usually, I would pursue the normal strategy of waiting until Ottomans are stretched thin fighting some other massive war, or simply wait for these alliances to break up -- but I'm not sure either of these things will ever happen. Ottomans are just too strong to be pushed to the limit by just one war, at least in my game. And these alliances with GH and Crimea seem to just go on forever (I had a similar problem in a pre-AoW game where Crimea was literally allied with them the entire game).
I guess I can just expand westward and wait until I've westernized and caught up in tech -- but I can't compete with Ottomans militarily at the moment. (Plus, the Commonwealth has just formed next to me, so surely they'll be waiting to pounce once I've gotten myself into a dogfight with Ottomans). What can I do?
