Dead Pope holds county

Hey guys,
currently playing with Byzantium and attacked the Pope for the county of Rome. So far so good.
The Pope then only held the county of Orbetello and decided to die.
Now (about 350 years later) he is still shown as the holder of that county, I cannot declare war on him and do not have a cb on the current Pope although Latium is my de jure Duchy.

Anyone having a suggestion for me or am I just too newb?

Sounds very strange, you should upload the save game.

If you checked the sticky threads you would realise you need to compress the savegame to attach it first. Or upload to a third party site and provide a link.

Unfortunately this issue is not easy to fix after it occurs. There is some theories that raiders can could fix the issue, but there are raiders there now and they don't appear to be doing anything.

Thats a shame because it means i will not be able to restore the roman empire :/

Any way to gain control of that county? possibly invade scotland where all the popes seem to come from now?
