I started out by asking concerning another topic (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?642526-Transferring-Vassals Incorporation,) but I am totally confused by this de jure drift feature. I played the game close to launch and just came back recently, but I need help understanding what is going on. It's quite literally ruining my game and makes absolutely no sense to me.

So basically, is there a way to even stop the the drift as emperor? It seems that after it starts, it's almost unstoppable. I think one area I've conquered may have stopped in Africa, but it took years. However, I started at 1081, and areas are still drifting into Rum even though I've taken the title for myself. The ruler of Rum has not even controlled many of these areas in over 30 years. Not to mentioned, two areas actually switched, and I see no way to return these to the original kingdom. I really hate having a kingdom of exactly one duchy; granted, I guess it'll soon be random lands throughout Anatolia and Armenia at this rate. I also still have most of Jerusalem drifting away even after creating the kingdom.

If anyone could explain this system and how to influence de jure shift work within your kingdom I would be very appreciative. I've basically put my game on hold until I understand this system because at this rate the world is going to turn into a strange mess with kingdoms holding land in random areas of Europe, Africa and The Middle East.

Edit: Also, what should I do with places like Wallachia? I can't form my own kingdom there, and I can't give these duchies to another kingdom. I had originally planned on giving the areas to the Despot of Bulgaria.

Duchies De jure drift at 1/100 to a kingdom every year if that kingdom controls all de jure parts of it including the duchy title. If another "independant" holds any part of a duchy - including the duchy title - the the duchy will drift back towards its de jure kingdom at -2/100.

So if you have a vassal king with a duchy that is drifting towards him that you want to stop, you revoke the duchy title and give it to someone else. The duchy (assuming it was at 40/100) would then drift back to its de jure kingdom (January it would be 38/100).

Drift can only occur to kings if they are not emperors, if a kingdom is drifting in a way you donot like, you could revoke the kingdom title and regrant it someone 20 years later after removing 40 years of drift.

There are many possibilities that can happen, but I'd try and revoke a county or the duchy title that I did not want to drift and give it to someone else.

Okay, I think I understand. So, for the two areas that switched to Rum, I should give the two counties to the king of Anatolia and the duchy title to a lord within Anatolia? For Bulgaria, I suppose I can revoke the duchies, give them to Bulgarian lords and wait 100 years. Considering it's easy to revoke duchy titles from lower vassals now, this is not too bad. Thanks. This feature was driving me crazy.

Edit: I tried it out, but it seems that only the King can hold the duchy title to bring areas into their kingdom? If you give a King four duchy titles, will he still hold onto them for 100 years for this to work?

Are the people you give the duchies to your vassals, or his? they need to be his for it to work.

o_O

So long as a different king controls the duchy titles, the drift will reverse. So either the king or one of his vassals can actually have the title, but it needs to be controlled by someone other then the one who it was drifting to.
