De-excommunicating myself

I got excommunicated which is fine. Then I became the papal controller and I do not have the option to de-excommunicate myself

Is there a workaround ?

Curious to know how you became papal controller all while being excommunicated. I'd love to pull that off when playing Florence.

The regular way. I put tons of papal points and got lucky. Previously Poland(by that time the papal controller) cowardly excommunicated me while being at war with the pope.

I got bonus style points for pulling that off as The Ottomans

well... Since you are excominicated and not your cardinals it actually makes sense

I think you can do it through the diplomatic interface (shortcut 'b' and then '0'). Same place where you build units or buildings or convert culture etc.

Except that, when excommunicated, you are supposed to be placed under interdict, and the cardinals should be able work with you. I guess putting tons of Papal points in play should begin by getting you de-excommunicated.

And whatever else, an excommunicated ruler should be barred from becoming Papal controller.

Hah! Clever idea. My ruler died so I can not try it but will try to remember it for the next time.

Wait, how does that work? Can only one excommunicatee exist at the same time? Like with crusades?
