Giving a new meaning to a really bloody hard game!

Commandant de Chatillon marched forth to the battle. Recently commissioned, he knew not what to expect.

What it wasn’t, though, regardless of everything else, was the void that he found himself in.

White.

Locked.

Immovable.

Stuck.

Cold.

574148519.jpg

Perhaps, he mused, there was a battle to be fought in this frozen, unknowable waste. Perhaps his nation would eventually develop the necessary skills for him to explore his surroundings. Perhaps, one day, a fleet would probe the icy waters of the north Pacific and rescue him from the frozen iceberg that would, for the next twenty years (though he didn't know it at the time), become his home.

We will never know.

Within two years he, and the Armée d’Italie, starved to death. They were in good spirits, though.

The End

Oh..and BTW this isn't faked! It's a legit screenie from my current France game with revealing bits cut out...and he really did attrit to nothingness.

I think this must be the first Frenchman to participate in biathlon? :)

Or perhaps it's the snowmen's revenge?

That screenie even beats those whale screenshots!

Nope. The shortest I've seen is Orleans: A Short Story by Thames.

I'll take the "shortest AAR with a screenie" though. :D

You know, the funny thing is that I have no idea how it got there or anything. I was just scrolling through my forces using the page up/down keys in case I'd forgotten to move anyone that needed to be moved in a highly complex 3-front war, and there he was.

I tried to move him towards an enemy capital but nothing doing. I even tried to "explore" the land area I was standing in. Nope...too scary to look at what I'm standing on until I get to land tech whatever. I sailed a couple ships over there to see if he could board them. Nope...there's no wayt to get to there from here.

I couldn't immediately figure out what to do, so I just kept tabs on him every so often to see how he was doing. After a couple years he had dissappeared so I'm assuming he attrited to death... I just thought it was off and decided to take a screenie of it to post in the bug reporting formum. Then I became kind of attached to it so I decided to post a little AAR too.

I've had the message pop up about some leader showing up in the middle of no where but I've never been able to find him. I'm glad I never did. Poor guy looks kind of lonesome.:(

What was his listed location in the ledger?

'Armée d'Italie stuck in primal chaos' or something?

I've only seen this with leaders and ships.

Might he have been a random conquistador who appeared on a ship, died and left his army stranded when tabbing through the armies?

I ended up posting on the bug reporting forum and found out that it isn't a bug (sort of) but just an oversight on my part.

Apparently when an army is "aboard ship" its location changes to the default placeholder "location = 0" which just happens to be just off the map in the north Pacific. Normally you would never see it unless you go through the excercise of pgup/pgdwn through every corps you have. I just happened to have forgotten that I'd left someone on board a ship somewhere (whereever Walvis Bay is) and they attritted to death.

Try it for yourself sometime. Now that I know how to do it, I can faithfully reproduce it at will. If you haven't explored anything even remotely close to that, it'll look like a corps in the middle of a great big empty white screen. PTI here I come!:)

Can we expect a PTI AAR soon?

1419 - Not much to report, really. Lot of white areas.
1489 - Tortillas Treaty between Pope and Spain and Portugal. Not too worried about consequences.
1519 - Reformation. Our non-provinces all stayed non-religious
1819 - End game. Not a lot to say, really...

Well, since the thread's already rezed .... I have to say that's probably the most forlorn picture I've seen in a very long time. :(

Oh, I agree. Necromancy's not good. As long as it's here, though, we can contemplate that screeny and mourn poor de Chatillon. I don't know what he and his two thousand men did to get exiled, but it must have been pretty bad.

And four years on, we mourn the passing of de Chatillon, loyal until the end, years spent in that endless void...
