I'm not convinced. The letter below the "el" seems to be more vertical than "v" in Jake's picture, but then my vision isn't perfect. I wouldn't be surprising if it's something that is completely new to the game, and therfore very hard to guess. Innovativeness would fit that criteria, and I suppose the symbol as well.

Edit: Did some testing, and it appears that my vision is indeed deceiving me, it could very well be a "v"

Most obviously, it's a little green Whisky bottle and it means that you can drink 50% more without getting drunk. In game terms, that's naturally some extra capacity for overextension (special anglican ability).... :p

I would, however, prefer it not to be entirely binary (that you can only have high absolutism or innovativeness and that everything that gains innovativeness loses absolutism and vice versary), considering that there were several historical countries that were pretty absolutist and innovative at the same time (e.g. Prussia under Frederick the Great).

By counter I meant a counterbalance. There seems to be a consensus among MP and minmaxing players that since the introduction of absolutism republics and other government forms that reduce maximum absolutism are underpowered and should be avoided/switched out of as soon as absolutism kicks in. An innovativeness modifier that is easier to gain for republics and Anglicans (who are likely, albeit not certain, to have English monarchy) might offset that disadvantage. Of course, this is quite speculative.

Innovativeness gain of what? Inventions like in Victoria II? These could make the game interesting and there were plenty of inventions across the world between 1444-1821. This would reward and encourage fast techers as well as tech stackers (Prussia in military and the Netherlands in diplomacy).

I want to add one thing kind of unrelated thing to this thread. Actually I always thought it was more likely for Victoria 3 to be released than to see Jake active on the twitter. Something must have gone terribly wrong.

Like Absolutism, Innovativeness will likely have multiple effects, e.g Tech cost, institution spread/embracement, advisor cost, and likely a slew of events giving short term malus/bonus effects depending on if it's low or high.

I also expect high Absolutism to drive it down or at leats the rate at which you gain it, plus a method sinking mana in to it to boost it (maybe adm).
