Honestly, I'm against gold mine depletion being up to RNKanye, even at higher levels. I get that it's there to keep you from making super profitable mines that will make you ungodly amounts of cash, but it essentially makes gold mines into a dip point sink.

I think that instead of cutting the money you make, it should cut the production development so that it doesn't become prohibitively expensive to get the mine up to working form again.
Gold mines do deplete in reality though; and your primary mine depleting was a very serious thing historically. I might be misremembering, but didn't the Tirol mines at least partially deplete in the 1600s and causing the Austrians problems?

I'm not arguing that. Of course they deplete, as do all mines.

It... does. Depletion halves the production in the province.

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with it, as I've avoided even the possibility of it happening since the system came out.

Does it half the production or the production development? Because those are two different things. One would have higher development costs associated.

For example: say I have a gold mine at level 10 that I spent ~1k monarch points to get there (pulling numbers out of the air here) that produces 10 units of gold that gets turned into some amount of money. It depletes so that I now only produce 5 units of gold. But does that depletion happen as a malus to production, or does it cost the development in half. Because one way I have to go from, say, dev 10 to dev 20 to produce the same amount of gold, whereas in the other I have to go from dev 5 to dev 10.

Yeah, but so do copper and iron mines and we don't have a depletion mechanic for those. Investing in gold production has a massive reward compared to other trade goods, so depletion is there to be a risk to counterbalance that reward.

Realism, meaningful argument, you know the drill.

Well I wouldn't be against other mines depleting as well; in fact I would welcome it. Just like how fur provinces can have all the game hunted and turn into naval supplies or something else (grain?). In fact several goods should have a chance to deplete, since it would be realistic. Naval supplies due to the forests being cut down (obviously should take into account that some provinces needn't produce timber, but could produce rope, tar, etc.) and ivory due to hunting down all elephants/narwhales in the area. Dyes potentially, but I don't know how much they relied on minerals back then. And things like tobacco is really tough on the soil so perhaps have some chance of the soil getting run down in those provinces.

Sure, I'm just saying the mechanic wasn't introduced for any reasons of realism.
