I think any package that solves that horrible bug where your own puppets (you just released or just got by means of event) hate you like hell ... will justified. .
Agreed. But this irritating error is'nt really a bug, but more something that paradox did't speend many hours to make switch events that altered the Diplomacy/trade parameters in the AI file's and to my knowledge no mod has done it. Basicly we need one event for comintern puppets, one for axis puppets and one for allies, and last one for other Neutrals to cover for when someone plays a minor neutral country and decides to do something rather ahistorical. Even if we limit the switch event to the puppets that usually gets created, the number of events starts to build up putting another strain on computing power. I have however made events for a few countries, with Sovjet creating finland puppet as the most notable example off a puppet government that hates the puppet master.
Spruce said:
Same goes for spies - which is now a little bit tedious.
Agree again, spying deffinetely could use some tweaking on both cost, likelyhoods and the Spy AI. As it is now, switch events that changes AI spy parameters dont substitute the entries allready in the AI section but adds to the list. So we cant switch focusses for the AI as the game progress since new spy switches will just ad to the list making the AI having multiple entries for the same country.

It looks as if they will put the existing naval combat on its head, which isn't a bad thing.
Agreed, this is probably the biggest flaw/weakness in current hoi2 engine. If it also fixes the crashbug when selecting naval stacks under air bombardment by multible air stacks, i would be very happy. If they also introduced more parameters, making it possible to have separate target provinces for subs and surface ships, Then the task of making a good sub AI would be hugely improved. On top of that more parameters to help the AI to focus Airforce would also be very appreciated. The Air AI is at best weak. We need to be able to guide the Air AI to focus on fewer theaters instead of trying to cover the complete board with air units. Most notably is the Italian and Germany AI placing Air units in ethiopia just to have them destroyed by allies when the take the province.

Firstly, I paid $20 for Doomsday. I've got faaaaaaaaaaaaaar more than $20 worth of entertainment out of it. $20 is two movie tickets or a cheap dinner for two. I've been playing Doomsday for at least 10 hours a week (more when I'm traveling on business) for the past year. Paying another $5-$10 is nothing.
I concur. I have paid alltogether around 500 DK kr. = 85$ US. Divided by hours spendt on playing and modding the game which i find just as fun as playing. I am currently down to around 20 cent/hour. The number dropping fast :)

hellfish6 said:
You guys who are complaining about cost really need to put things into perspective. If Paradox charged by the hour like many forms of entertainment, we'd all be screwed.
shhhh, for the love of god dont give them any good ideas. If Paradox included the time spendt on modding i would be really screwed.

Seriously, as i have stated before elsewhere in this forum, i would happily pay money for addons that improve current game engine. The information in the newsletter states that the AIR-Naval combat will be completely redone.

So i will put my money where my mouth is and happily throw another 10-30$ Paradox way, they deserve it.

Well, if putting a red dot on the bar when you are low in income with something is a booster pack and not a common patch, then I´m not clear what the difference between a patch and a booster pack is, except that a booster pack costs money! Revolutions was nothing more then a disapointment for me, souch as DD "expansion" was.

Sure there was more then a little red dot, but not that much.
My feeling is that it´s like Ive bought the same game twice without getting more for the money!

And now, yet another attempt to get my money...

Revolutions was def worth the money in my eyes, hopefully this will be as good.

Edit: Whats 10 bucks ne way? If it gets me more features and makes the game MORE fun thats worth the money.

I will GLADLY shell 10,20 or even 30 bucks for this booster. Hoi2DD is simply fantastic. The price paid thus far for this game and the number of hours of enjoyment it brought me, make Hoi2DD a steal indeed.

I'm not really too interested in new scenario's but other than that, everything is much appreciated. Just two pleas:
1) Please, please, please also fix the remaining bugs. You know them. The forum has pointed them out many times.
2) Make it as moddable as reasonably possible. More control by the community will solve many issues you won't have to solve.

I'm really happy with this annoucement. Thank you Paradox!
My credit card is ready Johan, bring it on :D

I will probably end up buying this from Paradox.

Like others have mentioned I will need more info before I get it, because I'd like to think there will be enough new features and changes to the gameplay to make it worthwhile.

Also, I'm the sort of guy who has to have it, since I am a big fan of Paradox. I don't think I could miss out on any sort of improvement on such a game like HoI2 Doomsday.

However, I must admit that this new strategy that Paradox seem to have adapted (this will be the second 'add-on' for HoI2 after all) is something that does have its flaws and there are definitely reasons why it would begin to worry me about the way Paradox maybe are going in the gaming world.

But hey, like I said I want to see more info about it before I am able to have a proper opinion and view on this new 'boosterpack' and before I am able to make any judgement.

Excited, but cautious!

I'd pay 10$ and probably even 20$ just for the possibility to play the game in higher resolution than 1024x768! Any time. I wish Paradox would make that possible. I still can't believe that a game that so heavily relies on you seeing as much as possible of the map was hardcoded to only be playable in such a small resolution...

I probably would buy it if it's within 10-20 EUR. HOI2, CMBB and one FPS yet to be decided will be the only games I'll be playing from now on, so I may just have all the latest gadgets for my babies.

  • I understand that Paradox is commercial.
  • I also understand that bug fixing should be free while new or enhanced features can be charged for.
  • I dont understand why there are still many bugs in HoI2 that would need free patching while HoI2 customers have to buy Doomsday to get HoI2 bugfixes (even so it may be difficult to provide several patches)
  • I understand that Paradox games are a fine base for modders.
  • I dont understand why Paradox tries to mod itself.
  • I understand that an expension/addon can be a good thing for developers, gamers and modders if it adds to the game.
  • I dont understand why Doomsday did not include more new features and modability improvements but instead introduced stuff better left to modders - this Armageddon seems to have the same problem
Paradox games are a fine base for modders - these mods are the most important reason for many players to buy Paradox games.
(i myself played HoI2 vanilla only twice before changing to mods)
all Paradox has to do is provide these modders with full control in doing their mods.
this is why i basically only look for hardcoded changes in patches/addons and there were simply not enough of these changes in Doomsday - i bought it anyway...

I just hope Paradox will concentrate on "real changes" in future addons/expansions instead of scenarios or other pretty unimportant stuff that is better left to modders.
If Paradox doesnt know what features, improvements and fixes are most requested they should just invite a spokesman from every major mod and create a list ;)

i think the overal EU3 concept is leading in the right direction by less concentrating on events and specifics but more on overall gameplay.
anyway - i havent looked deeper into it myself because im a HoI guy and will spend more time on the new engine/concept once the HoI3 release approaches.

You heard it here first! Our next project in the works is a booster pack for Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday - "Armageddon". Over the coming weeks we'll fill you in on the details of this Booster pack, expected release date and of course send out teaser screens. But this is what we can reveal so far:

The Booster pack will include two completely new alternative history scenarios, perfect for those looking for new challenges! The scenarios will also have variable end dates and in addition to a variety of new game options, gamers will find new features like:

- New attachments for Naval units, do you scrap or upgrade those old ships?
- Land units can now be built with brigades already attached.
- An Air Naval combat system that radically alters the combat balance.
New damage algorithms for the Air combat system, making organisation more important and allowing air units to fight longer

I'm intersted but will be sceptical about this booster pack.
I don't need new scenarios, cause 1936 will be mostplyes ever.
Variable enddates ist very good und some nes features might be interesting.

There are still issues with HOI: DD (1.0 - 1.3) that I would rather see dealt with first. It is still disappointing to see that after all their efforts and beta testing there are still some really obvious faults in the existing product.

However, if Paradox use a "booster" or "expansion" pack to fund further updates to HOI: DD, including fixing existing faults as well as adding new features, then I can accept that. I would even accept paying a modest subscription to fund fault fixes and upgrades. Or, paying more for the base product with longer development/test cycles.

Well this is all up to Paradox, but I will still be willing to pay top money for these types of games (EU, CK, HOI, VIC) because the money to gaming time return is excellent.

I don´t see expansion and booster packs as something negative in itself. Expansion packs make it possible to continually improve and increase the scope of the game in a way an original one-time release might not.

For example, The Sims has become infamous for its´many expansion packs. The original The Sims had 7(!!) expansion packs, but most of them added significant new features, objects and environments making the game much more fun, much richer and bigger. In fact, the final Sims (Sims Complete Collection) is almost a new game compared to the original The Sims.

So, as long as each expansion add significant new content that justify the price I could live with 10 expansion and booster packs for this game. But of course, it should never be that content is intentionally withdrawn to be used later in expansion packs or that bugs, fixes and balance issues are charged for.
