There have been some requests of adjustable screen resolutions but I doubt they include that in this booster pack.

Here's some Statistic on screen resolutions btw:

Code:
The current trend is that more and more computers are using a screen size of 1024x768 pixels or more:
2007 Higher 1024x768 800x600 640x480 Unknown
January 26% 54% 14% 0% 6%

2006
July 19% 58% 17% 0% 6%
January 17% 57% 20% 0% 6%

2005
July 14% 55% 25% 0% 6%
January 12% 53% 30% 0% 5%

This shows that 1024 x 768 still is the most common resolution.

Yes but are those statistics reflecting game players? Or have they lumped in business and school monitors which generally are not personal game monitors?

Just wondering, cause I bet if you ferret out business and schools you would find those statistics easily 'reversed' and that indeed, higher resolutions are the majority so far as those who buy and play Paradox games.

Hmm, I would guess it's a mix of all kinds of machines actually. It's obvious that more and more gamers tend to go widescreen but, not far from everyone is there yet. It would be cool though if we could get support for several resolutions (widescreen included).

Will Armageddon really make much money back for Paradox? Only the most hardcore users hanging around the forums will know about and download it. Are we really enough geeks here for this booster pack to earn significant money? How many copies did HoI2 and Doomsday sell?

Like I posted in this thread a while back, and similarly Lothos posted, the booster is only attempting to expand options for the review of hardcore HOI goons like us for future installments of the HOI enterprise.
In other words, I believe that the developers want to see how far they can go with a short timeline WW2 intensive game. Where EU spans hundreds of years, with many different options available, HOI gives you a small more restricted game where a player really has fewer options for replay than EU. While you can play any country, the fun major powers are generally restricted to a certain fate due to the shorter timeline. When Armageddon comes out and we all say "YAY!" the developers will know that we want more, and keep the new options and scenarios in a future release. If we say "NO!" they will probably leave some of the new features out next time.

HOI 2 and doomsday sold and still sell well due to a large fan base from the old HOI and from great reviews by game sites. Usually any game that sells well and gets positive reviews gets a sequel in this world.

Apparently enough was made on the Victoria:Revolutions expansion pack to make offering expansions in this format be profitable - if it hadn't been, the company likely would not have considered the format for other expansions of other titles. Consider that Victoria has a much, much narrower fan base than the HoI franchise it would take a much smaller % of the HoI base to equal the sales that V:R has enjoyed since its release last August, even with the Armageddon expansion at half the price of Revolutions.

Even though I'm not a hardcore grognard, I'm very excited about the new booster pack. HoI II brought me to wargaming and by now I own quite a bunch of Paradox games and love them (some more than others).

I think Doomsday added enough new features to warrant a paid add-on, though I would have been happier to simply buy the new features without the main game, which I already had. In this regard Victoria:Revolutions had much more value for the price.

Since Paradox is still eagerly patching Doomsday, I don't mind paying € 5,-- (heck, that's less than two beer when going out) for new features and campaigns. Since you don't need it, you're not forced to buy it. As long as Paradox doesn't charge for support, I'm in. It all depends on the price: the more I pay, the more I expect in return. And for € 5,-- thechanges mentioned by now are enough for me.

Now a quick question on GamesGate (I never used it, since I bought V:R as a jewel-case CD): do you need to download any special download tool ? Is there any sort of activation involved (like when you first start the game)?

You must download GG Downloader, some kind of download client. I must say it is not any piece of art and quite much bothers me, but once you get the game downloaded and you can forget about GG Downloader, all it fine :)

My thoughts exactly.
In fact, if the downloaded material require GG Downloader to be installed I will probably create a personal installationfile of the booster pack during installation ;)

Just as long as the AI is better>>>>>>>

Now me I dont mind paying for and having an add on, upgrade, booster pack, patch...call it what you will that gives me a better game than currently I get against the AI.

Now I'd be the first in line to give credit to Paradox for such a magnificent attempt at a huge subject...but lets face it folks the AI has always been and remains rubbish. Oh the patches have made one or two inroads but the computer does not attempt to envelop as a human would. It does not concentrate forces for an assault as humans do. It does not launch decent counter attacks as humans do to relieve pressure. It does not defend as a human would ....and amongst allies it certainly does not take advantage of weaknesses in a position as a human would. Indeed were in not for one or two programming edges built into the AI over the human player the computer opponent would not provide a game at all.

So me...I'd forgo any more bells and whistles...after all is anyone really challenged by the 'spying activites' incorporated in Doomsday or like me do you really reckon them to be a waste of space and programming...to have a more challenging AI... and I know thats many many years away...probably not in my lifetime.... Ah well I can dream

Why don´t you just play a small country? If you kick ass as Ethiopia on VH then maybe you might have a point... :p

And fighting on 2 fronts still gives the AI a major headache!

It depresses me mightily to save a game and then load as an AI state to see what they are up to- all too often you will find some random units being ordered to march from western france to moscow and vice versa for no apparent reason- it makes no sense...

Why on earth people identify difficult game with interesting game? They are absolutely different conceptions.
Easy game might be still interesting.
I absolutely agree with Soundoff, the AI is crap. After playing 6 month, maybe less, there is no more fun in SP games.
Without AI improvement no new features and scenarios could bring this fun back.
As to MP games, they are always interesting, there is no need for new features, only some bug patching.

OK, I did not read the preceding 17 pages.

But please god (of rock & roll) fix the subs! Just auto-retreat would be gooood.. And attrition-based sub combat would be ooh-tastic.

They're ridiculously broken. Much more so than any other element of the gameplay, except maybe the travesty of naval aviation that is being addressed now.

IMO ricky was way way bigger shot in the arm for vicky than DD was for HOI2. Let's check how VIP for ricky is coming along now that you remind me ;)

Please just drop the scenarios and give us improvements to the core game, that's were most of our playing hours are spent.

I would easily fork over $5-10 for a booster pack with only game enhancements like ship brigades. Some might think it expensive for just some minor additions, but I don't have any problems paying for quality in the few games I buy.

And no, Paradox should not be expected to provide this as a free patch. There is a difference between developing new functionality and fixing things that was unintentionally broken. They should however be quicker with bugfixes..
