im hoping theres actually a point to CVs and escort CVs now, unlike the current situation, where the fighters on a cv do nothing to hurt naval bombers. America didnt build over 100 light and escort CVs for nothing. Im fine with naval bombers raping up BBs, but escort cvs should destroy naval bombers.

Totally agree. I'm hoping that CAGs can be made to act like radar sites, i.e. give aircraft an attack malus. Maybe a lvl1 CAG gives a -2, lvl2 a -4, etc. Then of course if you had multiple CVs, say 4 CVs each with a lvl 4 CAG, it'd be -8 x 4 = -32% attack modifier to bombers. Could do similar for CVLs, just attach the modifier to the unit since it has no CAG.

Unfortunately Johan at Paradox doesn´t like that. He thinks it´s cheating since you will see what unit types your opponent has in that way. :(

So don´t keep your hopes up...

It's true.
The game shouldn't be so fun if the units had different spirits.

Well, at least BeBro and the original HoI1 has some very useful sprites to use in this game for us kids. It is really silly that HoI1 had so many more sprites than its´ sequel. Strange way to evolve a game... :(

counters can stack up really high which can hide or make unselectable any units and such in the province directly above. So I enjoy sprites for only that reason.

It is not silly but sadly logical. In HOI2 they chose bigger sprites and with more frames, should they leave the number of sprites as it is in HOI1 without changing the game engine the game would have a very, very long loading time... (after I added all the possible sprites types to DD (including L-PANZER) my game takes 4 times longer to start). What's silly is that in HOI2 there were sprite types (e.g. TRA) that you could add to the game but which do not work in DD.

Back to topic.

Just checked the Newsletter, DDA will be available for 4,99 €/$, which is a totally fair price IMHO. That's less then you pay for a Pizza that is eaten within minutes for a thing that could donate you hundreds of hours of fun.

Hopefully the additional scenarios are 1942 and/or 1943 GCs, but I read the Newsletter as if these are (->hypothetic) post WWII-scenarios.

If different sprites are cheating, maybe P'dox will have only one and the same gfx for all units in HOI3?

I think this is - very mildly put - a strange approach. I can understand the performance argument, but "cheating"?

Not cheating by any stretch of imagination. If you can see units in the map, it means they were discovered by reconnaissance. Scouts in real life saw soldiers, specific tanks and aircraft, not plastic squares, on the battlefield. This'd sound like a pro-sprites comment, but my whole point is that they don't constitute cheating, at all.

HOI is a game, isn't it? And a game is always childish!

I want only the possibility having sprites for each unit.

multilevelsprites would be the voluntary exercise.

And this is never cheating!

Well, about whether different sprites are cheating or not... Sure, scouts would detect unit models, spies would send in reports of new unit models. BUT, only if you send those spies in and only if you're at war, I guess. Otherwise, it might be difficult to track whether this and that unit has this or that tank model. I think. Just think of the surprise the Soviets readied for Jerries with their T-34s.

But currently in vanilla game (i.e. with no additional modder made sprites added) a player using counters gets more detailed info about units on the map (e.g. different types of INF divisions), which is kind of unfair, it should be a matter of stylistic preference not changing game difficulty. As for your specific example - the whole "suprise" element was that Wermaht supposed the T-34 numbers to be a bit lower, and quite possible many a German soldier did not know of their existence, but German command did.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but that would be illogical as there is the same number of counters (and they do show those types of planes that there are no sprites for).

Again I would petetion Paradox to allow us to mod in sprites for any unit type we want. Whatever are the reasons behind all this, be it performance or cheating, if there are no actual new sprites in the game nobody gets hurt. If we choose to add them ourselves, then it's our choice to cheat or have a slow working game.
