If your father holds a title and you want it then plotting makes sense if you're worried about not getting your hands on it soon enough, for instance if you're wanting to start a war against a stronger enemy or if your father uses gavelkind and any future children he has might inherit.
My father is usually dead, because he used to be my old character....
But yes, there are some situations. that's why I said succession laws not aligning.

Usually, but if you a) start as a landed son or b) have another living parent who's also landed then it's beneficial to kill them.

Of course, wiping out sibling rivals, unworthy successors and landed in-laws (especially if you're a queen), throwing relatives in the dungeon until death, revoking titles at the slightest pretext, Stalinist purges of everyone who opposes you, mass-executions of captive dependants, and, favourite for fairytale villains everywhere, betrothing your daughter to some ugly stupid man for political reasons are all universally-beloved CKII tactics.

Totally agree, but the DD 17 is even worse then 16. It is about cats. I will never play this game any more.
I wonder if you get to torture people with the cats?

Have you ever thought about flipping this whole thing on its head ?

In a world where baby killing, wife stealing, spousal rape, genocide, cannibalism and torture are not only possible but common why not play as the one beacon of shining hope in a world of darkness ? Turn your realm into a haven for peoples of all cultures, religions and genders. Push up the Gender Equality laws to maximum, give full rights to your council, focus on learning and family and spend up big on public works projects rather than retinues and petty wars and renounce forever the use of torture in your realm.

And no, there is no punchline here, the risks may be great but it may just work. I for one always try to be good to my wife (if maybe more than a little unfaithful) and to my kids, I reward loyal and capable courtiers and vassals and try always to act in the best interests of my realm (mainly because I'm lousy at map painting). Although I have been known to commit the occasional judicious assassination or two, I never (rarely ?) torture or maim my victims and do try at all times to be fair, even going so far as to ensuring that women and children are placed under house arrest rather than prison. Due to their more fragile natures of course !

I for one can't see myself using all the new "tools", but I am glad that they are there - if I find that a neighboring monarch has been torturing and killing his subjects then I will feel more than justified in capturing him in war and having him publicly beheaded (rw hanged, or elephant squashed or whatever the local custom is).

Roleplay that sucker !

I'm so DISGUSTED that this game let's me entrap old men by marrying them to 17 year old daughters to steal their money.

Paradox needs to be brought to justice for their elder abuse. HOW DARE THEY!

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for marrying a Karling heir.
I'm sorry for shtupping my Karling husband's father
I'm sorry for killing my Karling husband's older brother.
I'm sorry for shtupping my Karling husband's younger brother.
I'm sorry for marrying off that Karling sister off to a decadent Persian potentate.

I'm sorry. Really, I am.

Signed,

A very shameless non-Karling redhaired hussy.

I'll probably not avail myself of the torture option that often, but at least I'll probably get good use of the execution options when I am at war. Glad DD 16 showed that they are paying attention to details. DD 17 was great too.

I sort of agree, but video games have always been a bit sick. The vast majority are simply murder simulators, and CK2 has tended to have a creepy, twisted streak with its castrations, murder plots, and other horrible stuff.
