I presume that if you order your air force to attack Tokyo at night and Berlin at night the game wont bomb Berlin during the day, the game must know when its night and day everywhere otherwise it cannot apply any modifiers.
Yes, the game already recognizes a day night cycle that is different for Berlin and Tokyo, and this information was displayed in HoI3 in a small screen in the HUD. My point is why should paradox program in unique timezones? Imagine how difficult that would be handled if you're, say, the US and having to manage conflict in Europe and the pacific at the same time. How should reports handled by the game be based off of timezone wise? Should it be based on the location of the combat? Or should it be based on the time zone of the country involved, and if that how would it work for countries that span multiple timezones? Meanwhile, Paradox already knows how to display if it's day or night, as it was done in HoI3, and as such just adapted the UI to show the day'night cycle on the map itself rather than in a small corner of the screen.

Understand what your saying but as I pointed out already regardless if a country is initiating combat in different parts of the world the day night cycle will only prevent the player from making a mistake and lets say ordering an attack at night when they meant to do it during the day.

I will agree that the player will know more easily that 5.AM (game time) is morning in Berlin and 10 PM (game time) is morning in Tokyo but if you want to create a battle plan your going to need to use something more accurate then a shadow.
Any major offensive especially one that involves a battle plan will need much greater control and coordination among the various units, bottom line you need a clock even if it is using the wrong time zone.

A completely useless graphical gimmick that most people will turn off, of course if someone could explain to me otherwise I would be open to change my mind.
I think the main purpose is to give a sense of time passing as you watch your battle plans progress. HOI IV seems to be designed to be more hands off than HoI3.

Is that a good enough reason to change your mind?

I don’t get this Day\Night cycle animation and before anyone points out that knowing the time of day is important yes I do understand that but Generals do not look up at the sky and wonder if its bright enough to launch an attack they look at their watches.

Any major offensive using a battle plan will have instructions for Divisions to attack at a certain time and once combat begins they will not take a break during the night and start again in the morning.

The only possible use of actually seeing on the map whether its day or night is if the player wants to select a unit or units and attack at that moment but the benefit of seeing this on the map is minuscule compared to the cost of having the map textures altered once every day for 8 hours.

Seeing whether its day or night for air combat is perhaps even of less value to the player because there is no earthly way a player will give instructions to their air wings based on what an animation is doing and instead will obviously be able to give instructions to air wings to attack during the day at night or both and retire accordingly to refuel and rearm.

As I pointed out before unless someone is surprised by the fact that night will follow day the animation is irrelevant has almost no benefit to the player and can be turned off without a single impact on game play.
Whether it's on the map or not, it should correctly follow reality, I think...
