When going for a specific date in the 'new game screen', it is rather impractical that the map gets reloaded each time the date change, making it take quite a while if you want to go to a specific date. It essentially causes a lot of useless loading time. This is exacerbated on older machines, especially with mods.
A pratical solution is to put a nice, shiny 'LOAD' button next to the date picker, so the map screen only gets updated when it's actually needed. (There could also be toggle coming with it, for those people who enjoy seeing the map change with each date change).
Not a critical feature, but it's a small thing that would improve the quality of the 'new game' screen.
