I guess I missed where it says that a company may never change its policies to adapt to changing times and circumstances. And that customers have a right to expect that a company will never change its policies.

I sometimes wonder if people around here realize that Paradox is in fact *a company*. A company with employees that need to be paid salaries. A company that needs to turn a profit if it is going to survive. A company that needs to survive if it is to produce the games we all agree are, by and large, amazing and unique.

You shouldn't feel so defensive about this.
They can change their policies, and I can tell my opinion about that.
And I know how a business works, as I also own one.

Paradox was less fan friendly 10 years ago then you had to get expansions to get your games patched to the latest version. Here you are not forced to purchase the edition with season passes but it is left as a choice for the consumer.

Given that they took an extra one and half year to develop HOI4 + showing it of in streams covering over 10 hours of fotages I would hardly call them an unfriendly company for the consumer.

Not defensive in the least. Just exasperated.

Paradox announces today that Hearts of Iron IV is available for pre-order. To me, that is 100% good news. And, the game is very reasonably priced to boot! Nothing negative I can discern in this information.

So it never ceases to amaze me how some people are absolutely *determined* to fabricate problems where no problems actually exist.

Also, the fact that a nation as important as poland is having it's focus tree stripped out as a preorder bonus is offputting.
Not what they said... or meant. Never saw the original post, myself.

So clarification: The Polish Pack is free for everyone!

The reason it's a separate it's because it was developed as a separate project. It was meant to be released AFTER HoI4 was released. But since HoI was delayed, they timed up nicely and will be added for free with any purchase of Hearts of Iron IV (no matter if you pre-order or what version you buy. It's given to EVERYONE who buys HoI4 in one way or the other).

Shall I link a definition about it?

defending or protecting someone or something from attack : helping to keep a person or thing safe

very anxious to challenge or avoid criticism.

Since it apparently needs spelling out -- I didn't link to Princess Bride out of genuine confusion over what the word "defensive" means.

Anyway, nevermind. This conversation is going nowhere useful.

Nobody is forced to get the expensive edition and I don't think anymore is needed to be said.
You are obviously missing the point of the outrage.

Let me explain. The issue people like me take has two sides to it:

1. We are simply raising an issue to think about both in how Paradox sell their games and how people understand these sales. When there is so much hype for a game like this people are VERY quick to press the buy button without thinking first about all the aspects of buying something like that. There is nothing wrong about raising valid arguments for ordering a product prior to having any kind of glimpse of it and telling people "think about a, b and c before you make the purchase".

2. Speaking for myself here - If I didn't care about Paradox I'd say "screw it, let them do what they want". But I do care about this company since they make games I like and I don't want to lose my faith in it. And sales tactics such as these make a person like me doubt if Paradox will remain the outstanding company it was until now. When I buy a Paradox game I want to do it care free and not have to look for hidden surprises like this one, a mature consumer might be able to see the problems at a first glance but not someone who makes their first purchase.

And to be honest it would make me feel awfully terrible if I see the same sales tricks from Paradox as those that I see from big companies like EA, Activation and Ubisoft. I want to give my money to Paradox without feeling that I managed to "avoid the traps" like I do when I go to purchase a product from the previously mentioned companies. DLC's are about choice and allowing you to choose which elements of the game you want to ADD to your base game, there is no choice here - only promises for a base that isn't out yet and when they are out they are part of your game since you already bought them without knowing if you even wanted to add these elements or pay for them.

Anyone who continues to drum "you don't have to if you don't want to" is either missing the point or avoiding it intentionally, I am not retarded, I know there is no forcing of anything here, this is about my legitimate concern for the "soul" of this company and what it considers to be an honest approach to their customers and what is considered a "less honest" approach.

With that said, I am going to preorder the Cadet Edition of the game from the Paradox store to make sure they have every penny to make good DLC's for those who purchased the other editions :)

US$90.00 for the Field Marshal Edition.

That works out to what, less than US$2.00 per week over the next year for a game that most of us will likely play for at least dozens of hours, if not much much more, over the same time period.

What other recreational fun can you have for less than US$2.00 a week? Even a decent beer costs more than that!

I get it cheaper from steam due to one primarily thing.... NO EU VAT for me in Norway. At the price of around $70. I would buy from Paradox with no EU tax, but i just saved $20 through steam... Welp, im a consumer so.

The polish DLC will be available to all.

...In addition everyone who purchases Hearts of Iron IV will receive a free DLC, the Poland: United and Ready National Focus Pack. This DLC gives Poland a unique national focus tree , several 3D vehicle models, 2D art and additional leader portraits, fleshing out the experience of playing as the nation.

The Poland: United and ReadyDLC will be available for all players, no matter when they choose to purchase a copy of Hearts of Iron IV...

I'm fine with their pricing. I am fine with Paradox making good money on these games. The thing is, no one else is making games like this. So I can't understand why people would worry about a few dollars or euros or pounds when, the alternative is a Paradox that isn't as successful and is not making these kind of great games.
