Because they get your money in advance for promises. After that the consumer can't do anyithing about it.

u are not forced to do that.
IF you dont agree, dont pay it. IF there are people that agree with such model, they will buy it. So if u are a company, why dont u try this option?..

Also, anyone here willing to bet that, when it's all said and done in a few years, Civilization VI will *only and in total* have cost $59.99? Because Firaxis has never been known to sell expansions or DLC additions?

I understand you don't like it. I'm not interested either.

But, other than you personal taste (or mine), can you explain me why it's a bad business model ? I'm open and interested to hear you arguments.

Because handing money over upfront doesn't incentivise a good product. Quite the contrary. Having to sell something on it's won merits does.

I really wonder who came up with this "treat your customers as investors".... there's only one company that succeded with that if you ask me and it's Slightly Mad Studios, I paid 25 euros for the game during beta testing and it gave me access to the betas + 50% off the game on release AND THEY'VE PAYED ME BACK 3 TIMES totalling well over 50 euros. Now that's kickstarting.

No short term incentive, there is a long term incentive though in that if they do that they will lose large amounts of consumer confidence which would hurt their long term revenue.

I have tendency to buy all DLCs to Paradox games which I own, so I thought that I might just pre-order those DLCs as well. It won't change anything, besides it saves some time when I don't have to buy them separately. Season Passes are handy because of that.

If you don't like pre-ordering expansions then don't buy season passes, but there's nothing wrong with them.

Well, of course, Stellaris is by no reasonable measure a broken piece of junk.

That's my point of view and I really can't play the game without getting annoyed due to broken mechanics, insanely badly balanced combat and bugged end-game events.... No matter what I try to do it just seems to show some broken part of itself to me.

I think some people are getting sidetracked. The issue isn't whether a season pass, when offered as part of a pre-order with a presumed discount is worth a given amount of money. That is only a matter of personal finances and perceived value for money. The issue is about the proverbial cat in a bag, where the future content is entirely unknown and the purchaser assumes all the risk, acting entirely on faith. We all know Paradox are going to deliver on their promise, however, without as much as a glimpse as what those expansions are going to entail, it's quite a leap of faith, which may detract some people, who may otherwise be happy to pay upfront. This isn't a casino, these things should be clearly laid out, or at the very least, hinted at.

Correct you are, there's a chance I made the wrong decision in which case egg on me.
I just hope paradox makes well on what essentially is a promise atm.

Nobody is forced to get the expensive edition and I don't think anymore is needed to be said.

It's not about being to forced to do something or not. Nobody is saying that you shouldn't buy it if you want to. However it's still a risk for the consumer, even if the consumer doesn't realise it.

And trust is an other thing that is very fragile in the business world. Paradox are very fan friendly and I love them, but they were against season passes a few months ago. How many months until they change an other policy of theirs? How many months until they stop being fan friendly? We saw it happen quite a few times on the video games market so far.

  • The Showdown Effect
  • Europa Universalis III Complete
Nobody is forced to get the expensive edition and I don't think anymore is needed to be said.

I'm not going to. I'm just voicing my opinion on the matter. The state of Stellaris and the high prices of this pack, along with pre-selling DLC is worrying for me, when I love PDS so much. Also, the fact that a nation as important as poland is having it's focus tree stripped out as a preorder bonus is offputting.

I expect better of PDS.

It's not about being to forced to do something or not. Nobody is saying that you shouldn't buy it if you dont want to.

I guess I missed where it says that a company may never change its policies to adapt to changing times and circumstances. And that customers have a right to expect that a company will never change its policies.

I sometimes wonder if people around here realize that Paradox is in fact *a company*. A company with employees that need to be paid salaries. A company that needs to turn a profit if it is going to survive. A company that needs to survive if it is to produce the games we all agree are, by and large, amazing and unique.
